Guys: what does, "i'll keep you in mind," mean?

I told someone I liked them and their response was if it doesn't work out with Girl A that he would keep me in 'mind'.

Is that the kiss of death? I don't really like the idea of being a second option. Should I just quit trying to talk with this guy?

He is making you an option, which is never a good thing. Ever. It's painful to move on, but it will save you a lot more heartache than if you actually went for it. Trust me, I've been there. Besides, what sort of guy tells you "maybe if it doesn't work out with so and so"... that's selfish and definitely a red flag. I guarantee you a better catch will come along, who actually values others more. ;)

I would be offended if a guy said that to me and he was telling me he is trying to work something out with another girl. You should never be someone's second option. Move on from him and tell him you won't be keeping him in mind if that's the case.

That's just a douche response.

He either likes you and wants you know, or he doesn't at all. So he's just wiping you off like he could always bang you if Girl A doesn't work out. He would already have the 'next one' queued up.

You shouldn't like to be the 2nd option, just look for someone else.

Yepp, agree with dirtyblondeforever - you're his backup, his go-to gal if it doesn't work out with Girl A, and even if he doesn't love her as much as he claims, then he'll probably want to have you as his mistress
