I wrote this for my wife, she had to go out of state to help a sick family member, and now I'm not sure how long she will be gone. I love her dearly and miss her and hope she comes home soon. So I sat down and wrote the following, which I dedicate to her.
Ghosts
There are many I know who wonder about the existence of ghosts and wonder if they are real. I can tell you I believe they are. Unfortunately it took your leaving for me to see that ghosts are real.
Every day you are away, I live with your ghost. I have learned it is in all the little things, things you normally wouldn’t notice, all the little things that comfort you and warm your heart each day, a gesture, a word, a scent or sideways glance, a warm hand to hold when you’re scared or unsure, a smirk at an inside joke, a whisper in the night before you go to sleep, that certain song that makes you think of the one you love. It is in all these seemingly insignificant things that we have built a relationship on. When the one you love leaves, you begin to realize just how important these little things are and miss them all that much more when they are gone.
In your absence I walk about and see the remnants of when you were here and see your ghost and I smile. Remember the little things and to never take those things for granted and never miss an opportunity to tell the one you love how much they mean to you and express your love in all the little ways that mean so much.
I Love you so and hope that you too might see my ghost too. I will wait for you my dear and look forward to when we can be together once again.
