This ain't about us being hung up on it, it's about you. Honestly I can't even count the number of times I've heard guys use "the natural order" as some sort of bs defense for why sexism is natural and okay. This mytake, at least the way I read it, was more about disproving that idea of the natural dynamic between male and female, rather than about proving it should be a certain way.

It actually does prove that there are sex roles in nature. It doesn't disprove that male humans are naturally the dominant sex in humans, it just lists some animal species in which females are the dominant ones, even though the lion example is wrong.

That's like saying employees run a business, not the boss, because they do most of the work and outnumber him/her. Male lions are larger and stronger. When a new male lion finds a pride, fights and chases away the alpha and finds his young cubs, the new alpha eats them. Why would a Mother allow that if she and the other females are in charge?

Praying mantis and black widow eat the male because the extra protein ensures more nutrition to the eggs before they are laid. Although it's not needed, it is proven offspring are more numerous and healthier from females who ate males. However, the males Sperm is passed on so in death he still fulfilled his purpose.

I don't think she's saying males aren't needed, just that the females tend to be more in charge. Every pack couldn't survive without males considering reproduction. :)

Isn't that lionesses hunt and only when they don't manage to bring pray the lions enter the action? Lions also kill cubs to force lionesses to mate with them, hardly dominated I would say.

@openwide the lionesses definitey do the hunting and raising of the young. the males ward off nomadic males and hyena attacks. some males even go as far to killing hyenas (without eating them) to make a point.

the males are the shotcallers.

There is a lot of evidence that this isn't fundamental to human behavior, though a testament to how widely human behavior adapts to different circumstances.

Rather, the idea is that this sort of thing only came about when women could only get resources through a man. When you can only marry into status and resources, you are shoved into a situation of choosing only the richest, most powerful men.

Before agriculture, when humans were nomadic hunter-gatherers, gatherers actually provided most of the food overall. There wasn't competition to be one male who monopolizes sexual access, rather, everyone had lots of sex, and it was mostly sperm competition that led only some 40% of men to ultimately reproduce. We see this in hunter-gatherer tribes today, where they have little hierarchy and have little to no sexual exclusivity.

So rather, girls wanting to "exchange resource access for sexual access" is an ancient relic and holds no relevance when women can provide their own resources.
