Documentary on Suicide: "The Bridge"

Curmudgeon

I have seen a few posts lately from depressed people bringing up the idea of suicide. At an earlier age, I felt like that. But I urge everyone considering this to PLEASE think again.

Here is an interesting documentary on the subject, "The Bridge" (released 2006):

As you may have guessed, the documentary is about selected suicides or suicide attempts at the Golden Gate Bridge, and was filmed in the year 2004. At one time the Golden Gate Bridge was, and perhaps still is, the world's most prominent by numbers suicide jumping site due to its proximity to a major city area, landmark status, great height, and cold choppy water below. (Perhaps some more recently constructed bridges near cities in Asia have overtaken it; I am not sure). I contemplated jumping off of it once because I grew up and live near it, but I am older and wiser now.

The documentary is brutal at times, but thought provoking. For anyone who has had to deal with a friend's or family member's suicide or attempt at same, or for anyone who has considered it.

I guess this goes in the "Relationships" category because suicide is the ultimate damage one can do to relationships with others.....
