Myths about Suicide (Written by a suicide attempt survivor)

Trigger Warning included complain if you will but this is a serious subject.

I have major depressive disorder among other things. In my life I have attempted it twice, I've been stopped from attempting it once and there are of other times I've seriously considered it. (Please don't remove this take I'm not suicidal atm and am trying to be informative and hopefully help at least one person.)

Myth number 1; Suicides always leave notes

The myth of suicides always leaving notes is incredibly pervasive to the point where it even shows up in cop shows where they say shit like, 'it must be murder cause there's no note'

The fact is that only about 25-30 percent of suicides leave notes. I didn't leave a note either time I've attempted suicide.

Myth Number 2; People who fail at committing suicide feel better after

Myths about Suicide (Written by a suicide attempt survivor)

A lot of people including myself feel WORSE right after failing at committing suicide. You feel like you are so worthless you can't even manage to die properly. Its one of the the lowest feelings a person can feel.

Myth Number 3; People always look and act like their at their lowest when they are about to commit suicide

A lot of people actually seem to be getting better when it happens, its that they are thinking that all their pain will go away soon. So they often appear to have gotten a little better right before the end. This doesn't happen with every case but it happens enough that it should be noted.

Myth Number 4; If someone is suicidal the best course of action is to immediately call the police

Now if the person suffering is in danger of hurting someone else call the police, but the police often make things worse. First its not infrequent that due to the lack of training that goes on in certain places the police have been known to kill someone who is suicidal and with a knife or gun. Second, and this is extrodinarily fucked up. The POLICE HAVE BEEN KNOWN TO ARREST THEM IF THEY ARE VIOLATING ANY LAWS. A person has an unregistered weapon, the VICTIM gets prison time. Oh the victim was going to use illegal drugs to kill themself, again, police have been known to arrest them (IMO any police officer who does should lose their job.)

Now I know at least one person will give me flak for this, but its sad but true that the best thing to do if the victim is bleeding or has taken drugs, is TO LIE TO THE 911 DISPATCHER ABOUT WHAT EXACTLY WENT ON. Usually the best course of action is to actually say that there was a serious accident and someone is dying. What generally happens is that you get EMS but no police and when the EMS or at the hospital then you tell what really happened.

I hope this helped at least one person and that people learned something from this take
