Is It True Love? 10 Animals Who Love For Life <3

Sometimes humans don't take being loyal to their partners seriously. Sometimes things don't work out, or they simply want to get involved with a fling or they're looking for a thrill. You see it all the time in the media. Love affairs and cheating scandals galore. What's the deal with us?

Well, these 10 animals put some of us to shame when it comes to being monogamous. What is monogamy, you ask? It's the state of being with one partner at a time. These members of the animal kingdom prove that there are faithful lovers, and they love like no other.

Not all eagles can be trained, but those who take to life with a master display intense loyalty. Although they are not tethered, they always return after killing their prey. " -Stephen Kinzer

They can't exactly put a ring on it, but they sure know how to show it! Check out these insanely loyal animal friends!

1. Gibbon Apes

These primates don't have time for monkey-ing around with a 40-year long lifespan. Both male and female gibbons from strong bonds with each other when it comes to their families. They defend their homes together, groom each other, and care for their young together. However, every relationship comes with it's faults. Studies have shown that gibbons are socially monogamous, but not reproductively monogamous, which means when it comes to flings, these little monkeys swing, and not just from the branches. When it comes to families though, they will stick together, though and come home to snuggle with each other. Still kind of cute. Reminds me of some human relationships, tsk tsk.

2. Swans

Swans are the hopeless romantics of the bird world. Have you ever seen them do that adorable thing with their necks? They touch beaks, forming an adorable heart shape. Awww! Makes sense that they are strictly monogamous. They really do love each other, and will stick together 'till death do them part. The male swan helps the female build nests and raise their young as well. He's a good dad too and stays loyal to his woman. How sweet!

3. Barn Owls

Over 90% of birds are loyal to each other, but that doesn't mean they'll be completely loyal to one mate. When barn owls get the ball rolling, it's intense. Barn owls also love hard. The male shows he's into her by fighting competing owls, loud screeching, and gifts of dead mice. If she screeches back, that means she loves him too, and they tie the knot. Kind of weird, but some couples are into weird stuff. At least when they get together, they'll never cheat. Lovely!

4. Prairie Voles

These little fuzzballs are one of the rare rodents in the animal kingdom who only stick to one partner. When they get together, they are practically attached at the hip. They take monogamy seriously, and it's not just limited to sex. They groom each other, build homes together, and even spend their free time together, and they don't check out other voles! Male prairie voles protect their mates with chivalry skills from Medieval times. When the babies come, this doesn't change, and they'll both pitch in to raise their young. Good parents and excellent lovers if I do say so myself!

5. Wolves

The alpha male of the wolf pack does not do the deed alone. He needs a lady by his side that will rule with him. They begin mating young, having pups that will become new members of his wolf pack. He helps his lady raise the young, bringing back food for the den and teaching them how to fend for themselves. They will mate for life (Most wolves can have pups until old age), never splitting up to find a new mate. When you see a lone wolf, you can't help to feel sorry for the guy. He's either single, heartbroken over the loss of his partner, or helping his wolf friend nurse his broken heart.

Bald eagles represent the United States, patriotism, and can even serve as the poster child for stating faithful to something other than their country. When he or she finds a mate, they stick together, but when migration season comes around, they split up. Not to find a new mate however, but for protection. They will always come back to each other in the spring in mating season, like how soldiers come back home to their families in the military. Super cute, and maybe alone time is just what they need to make it work.

7. Beavers

Only 3 percent of mammals are monogamous, but leave it to the beaver to shine. Beavers are not just loyal partners, but they are devoted parents as well. 8. Shingleback Skinks

Once these little lizards settle down, their eyes are only set for the one. Once a male shingleback finds the one, he woos her by licking her and gentle nuzzles. The constant advances may go on for months before the pair finally decide to mate, or copulate. Sure, it may take a long time before they breed, but their love affair can last over 20 years. When one lizard dies, the other lizard can stay by the body for days, licking and nudging it...hoping for them to just be joking, or simply mourning over their dead body. So sad. Hang in their little guy.

9. French Angelfish

They take PDA and being clingy to a whole new level. French angelfish spend most of their time swimming side-by-side and following each other around. It doesn't matter what their doing, they will always be doing it with one another. It's also be shown that when they're reunited after being apart, they'll circle each other in happiness in an act called "carouselling". Might just be the cutest couple on earth.

10. Termites

Is It True Love? 10 Animals Who Love For Life <3

Monogamy is something you'd expect from mammals and birds, but not so much from insects considering how many offspring they produce. Think again. In fact, termites are super loyal to each other. That big colony you see of thousands of termites? It's just an enormous family of distant cousins, aunts, uncles, and more. So the next time that termites raid you house, you'll at least have some closure do to the fact that they're doing it as a family!
