5 Signs You're Being Too Clingy

Last week my girlfriend called me 12 times in one hour and sent me various angry text messages while I was at a doctor's appointment. That’s when I figured out she was a little clingy. Then I started to notice other clingy things she does. I put those things on a list (which you can read below) so I could share it with you guys and maybe help you realize something you're missing.

If you can relate to any of these you may be clingy...

You overanalyze your SO's social media activity

Checking your SO's Facebook/Twitter/Instagram to see who they've followed and what pictures they liked makes you clingy and insecure. If your boyfriend liked another girl's photo its not because he's cheating. He just likes the photo.

Your follow your SO around

If your SO tells you they're going to have coffee with a friend and you randomly show up without being invited, you are probably clingy.

Your call/text your SO constantly

Constantly calling or texting your boyfriend/girlfriend to see what they're doing and who their with makes your clingy. If you can't trust your SO then you probably shouldn’t be in a relationship with them.

You get nervous/angry if they don't respond right away

Your SO could be in class, at work or somewhere they can't immediately respond to you.

You don't make plans of your own

You keep your schedule wide open in case your SO calls to make plans.

For all of you clingers out there: it's possible to have a life of your own and be in a relationship. So go out and do your own thing!

True, true every point. The hardest thing for some is to find a balance between overly trusting and naïve vs stalking, lol.

These pitfalls can all be avoided by keeping a life of your own even after getting into a relationship. Knowing that being overly clingy WILL push someone away should be a deterrent, but it is easy to lose sight when you are wrapped in a blanket of insecurity and distrust. Maintain your friendships, spend time apart doing things you like and giving him or her breathing room is the healthier way to keep a relationship strong. Give him or her a chance to miss you once in a while and you will be rewarded.

This totally explains how I was with my ex. I didn't realize I was being clingy until after he had broken up with me but I'm getting there. I've learned you have to have a life of your own before getting into a relationship. You don't' have follow or stalk your so around the school or text them constantly, who knows they may be doing something busy. This is such a great take, I'll keep these things in mind whenever feel like I am coming off as clingy in a relationship. I would also like to add that you are or want to be with your SO everyday and you get uncomfortable, nervous, or insecure if you can't.

Also just because you have friends doesn't make you un-clingy. I think people have the misconception that if you have friends you can't be considered clingy.

A little while back I answered a question and some female was doing 1, 3, 4, 5 and she believed that she wasn't clingy because she had friends of her own. Although she didn't hang out with because she wanted to keep her schedule free for her bf that she was with everyday.

Personally I think she was in denial though.

I'm going to be honestl here a lot of these things my girlfriend does BUT I think I feed it because I do that very last one on the list. So I never thought of that as clingy. Kinda interesting. I'll work on that. I think Social Media has everyone paranoid these days I just stay off it mostly and that's what bugs my girlfriend the most.

I guess my "clinginess" would depend on how interested I am in the girl, how much we have in common, and how much interest she's showing.

Maybe clingy isn't the right word, but attached. Like I have a life of my own, work 2 jobs, and love hanging out with my friends so I don't think I've been any of the 5 traits mentioned.

I even like to mix up who I hang out with too. Like I got my few best friends and there's acquaintances or friends I like to hang out with from time to time. I think being around a friend or SO 100% of the time would get annoying and old fast. Sometimes less is more.

I don't text so most of those couldn't apply to me or my bf -- And we dont do any of the other things. ... I can't imagine many people actually would.

One thing about the " plan" segment. Sometimes people don't make plans bc they don't like making plans. Then they are free when their so wants to hang out but that's not the same as leaving your schedule open just in case.

Ha yeah I thought I would love it too. But I think at the end it depends on how she reacts. Jealousy could be cute sometimes. My ex was quite clingy. Every freaking time I didn't reply his message immediately, he thought I was sleeping with some other guy and got really mad for no reason. Not cute whatsoever.

I am very clingy online. There is this guy that I know he has a girlfriend and all. Yet I keep Messaging him on Facebook. And he ignores my messages. I recognize this is inappropriate behavior. And I want to know how do I stop this behavior? I don't want to lose a friend because of my OCD and clinginess. I try not to message him. But I keep doing it. And I don't mean to be this way. Really I don't.

Sounds like me. This happened when I met a guy that did all the things I needed that my ex never did. Like affection, conversation, sense of humor. I was drunk on it and it made me very clingy.
