We love each other but we can't be together because of religion. What should I do?

So i asked him last night what am I to him. He said he's been avoiding the topic but its just unfair if he would not tell me so he did. He said he loves me but i can't be his girlfriend because he can't be in a relationship with someone who is not like him, a deacon, a leader. He said its too much to ask me to convert to his religion but if i want to then he could wait. We've been acting like boyfriend and girlfriend for a while now and this situation saddens as. I am also active in church, same as him but we have different religions. I love him too. I said nothing will change because i love him and i understand the situation. We are both christians, religion is not really a big deal to me but for him it is a big deal. What should i do? it's gonna be hard, i know :(

In my opinion its not that he loves you because in my opinion if i really love a girl i would give all of that up to be with her so im not saying he doesn't like but it seems he doesn't "love" you at least the way i see it.

It's not actually because of his parents. It is his choice. I dont think his parents are crazy. They are good people and they raised their children well.

Yeah i know. I only come second but i understand him. Ryt before we started this i knew he wants a girl who loves God as much as he does. I understand it so clearly

What i meant was i don't really care if a guy belongs to another religion. I am not a very religious person but i can't convert just like that. :(
