We're in love but we can't be together?

we both know that we're in love! but we can't just say it and we won't admit it because we both know that we can't be together!
we have been best friends for 5 years and he was in relationship with my best friend ! but when they broke up ! our friendship became stronger ! but she (his ex) and i are not friends anymore because of many reasons ! we're not in the same school anymore and we don't see each other so we are okay with it ! it just happened ! but it started a year ago, my best guy friend and i (am a girl) got drunk, so we made out.. and then we became friends with benefits and we were okay and happy for the hole summer.. but this year it begins to change ! everything even the make out became with love and we care for each other a lot but i can talk about other guys that i like and he can do the same and we are okay but now it changed everything ! he told me that he dosen't like it when i talk about other guys and i told him that i can't see him with another girl ( i love him i admit it to myself ) but i can't say it ! 2 days ago he said that he loves me and he wants me to be his girlfriend speak in a joking way in front of our friends.. and i said no because he was joking but he kept convincing me to be his girlfriend and he didn't stop :3 then i sais yess and we're acting that we're in a relationship ! the next day everything back to normal ! but the normal we hold hands, we hug each other, he plays with my hair, long looks, => we do stuff that explains that we are crazy about each other.. but we can't be togother everyone will hate me because his ex ( my ex best friend ) still loves him so much and we'll hurt her if we 'll be togother.. and everyone will be shocked because we have been always that close best friends that can't imagine that one day will love each other! please what to do?
