He chose work over my birthday should I be mad?

I live with my boyfriend and my birthday is coming up. This is the very first time celebrating my birthday together but he has work during the entire weekend. Should I be mad at that? I even said then you'll miss my birthday and he said he can't do much about it since he's schedule to work. I know for a fact that he bought me a birthday present already though. But before he did mention that we are defenitely going out on your birthday :( should i feel upset about this? Or I'm not being understanding? For myself, I'll do anything to be with him on his birthday.

He's said maybe he can take me out to dinner Saturday night but if he's tired no because he's working next day.

I understand and that I should be happy about that he's being productive and working hard. He gets off at 7pm and he can have dinner with me after work but he chose not to and instead stay home watch tv and sleep? I asked about if there's any dinner plans and he's said it really casually that well, only if u meet at my work or something. So forced so i rather not

Hmmm, I would be pissed if he originally did not have to work and volunteered instead. But, I would not book a day off just because it was your birthday. Love doesn't pay the bills. We have to work in order to live, that is a sad reality. It sucks, but sometimes people will take the extra shifts too here and there to help get ahead in life. I am sure he will make it up to you.

it's his job. you should be happy that he is being shrewd and a hard worker. my wife has never taken my birthday off. in fact most people I know have never had a partner take a day off for someone elses birthday.

I think it is fair that you expect him to do something for your birthday when he was time but not at the expense of his job

It's only your birtbday. It's not a nationality holiday. Work is more important than a birtbday. It's a blessing to have a job anyway.
Plus he told he is taking you out. So what's the provlem?

It's just a birthday. After 21, who cares that much about birthdays? I don't even take the day off for mine, so I'd never take time off work for another person's birthday, nor would I ask or expect someone to take time off for mine. Going out to dinner after work is more than sufficient.

Money doesn't grow on trees u know. U want ur bf to b jobless so u can dump him later just cuz he came for ur bday.. I think his job takes priority over ur bday Anyday... Com'com u guys r still not kids to make ur bday such a big deal... Work is more important..

If he has no choice but to work on your birthday, then you can't really blame him. Besides he at least bought you a gift and does plan on taking you out to make up for not doing it on your birthday, so it's not like he's doing it intentionally.
