Is a language barrier a deal breaker?

I really like this guy i met in Germany when i went there to visit and he knows some English but he i would say his English speaking is average so we have pretty "basic" conversations so that he can understand me, i have tried learning German but i suck at learning new languages i only know the basics of German which i got taught at school but not enough to have a proper conversation in German, What i would like to know is would this be a deal breaker? Why can't he learn English? English is a worldwide language so even if things doesn't work out like the person said he will still be able to use English whereas German isn't worldwide so you probably won't need to use it again, I have been in a relationship with a Turkish guy and i didn't understand Turkish at all but he knew English very well so it wasn't a problem and he actually taught me a lot of stuff in Turkish so maybe he could do that for you aswell if he learns more English

It really depends, if your having to keep your conversations with this guy basic just so he can understand then yes i would say that is a problem, you won't fully be able to get to know eachother if you're having to speak basic English to eachother. German is quite easy to learn if you wanted to give it a try however if he learnt more English it would work very well in his favour

Also why are you learning German, and he isn't learning English?
I mean not that there is anything with it, but if this thing fails, you won't have use for your new language. While he can always use his English.

For me personally yes it would be a deal breaker, only because i don't see the reality of having a relationship with someone who doesn't know how to speak my language fully or me not knowing how to speak their language fully however there is always time to learn and giving it your best shot and learning a new language is always beneficial, German isn't too hard to learn something like russian, chinese or arabic would be difficult to learn
