The Facebook Search Bar/ Stalking?

So i'm not friends with my ex on Facebook and I read that the first name that comes up is like who's looking you up, I searched the first letter of his name and he came up, I put in his middle initial, he came up, I put in the letter of his last name, he came up.
I find that I find my exes in the search bar even when I don't look at their profiles
A friend is friends with my ex (a different ex) and when I search my friend, my ex comes up and were not friends either.

Is this a real thing?

That is NOT true. The results that pop up are typically people you are friends with, not the people that are searching for your profile online. Chances are, if YOU have been on THEIR profile before, it's going to show up in the search bar. Also, people that live near you will show up too.

It doesn't matter if you don't visit their profiles anymore. If you've ever been on their profile and you're friends on Facebook, it will show up in the search bar when you type a few letters of their name.

What are the chances of someone that lives 5,000 miles away from you and you have no mutual friends and no relationship on Facebook showing up?

You say mutual friends. Are you friends with him? Maybe it just shows up because you searched their name a few years ago, or maybe because you've checked out their profile once or twice.
Don't overthink it. I can type in a letter and someone I'm not even friends with anymore can show up, simply because I've been her friend and I've been to her profile.

the other i think we only have one mutual friend

and that ex that came up when i put in 3 letters 3 times he lives 5,000 miles away and we have no mutual friends so I dont get that
