Explaining bra sizing to boys?

Ladies, I was trying to explain bra sizing to my other half the other night and despite his best efforts, the poor thing was confused after the first 30 seconds.
I have no idea how to explain it to him. It even starts to spin me around if I think about it for too long.

My friend is a plump girl, much taller than me, and is several cup sizes below me. Our bra sizes are completely different, and looking at these graphs and going by what I've always been told, my bras should be bigger because I have a higher cup size, but her boobs are way bigger than mine. I look like I've got two mosquito bites when next to her.

I'm guessing that bras in Australia are probably sized in UK sizes, but, if there are any brands there that use American sizing, this page is also relevant. (For anything bigger than a D, the SAME letters are DIFFERENT sizes in the two systems lol)

I use to work in lingerie store, a lot of women have no idea how bra sizes work. The vast majority of customers were wearing the wrong bra size. So the fact your boyfriend was confused is not surpising.

After learning about the correct modern sizing I tried explaining it to my boyfriend. He didn't get it either but at least he absorbed that DD is not a large cup size on most people. I consider it a win.

Yep, exactly. My boyfriend thought I was a double D when we got together, then was completely confused to find out I was a G cup, because he was under the impression that G cups were absolutely massive

I think that it would be helpful if you tell guys that it is a ratio. It certainly was helpful for me. That a d cup size with a 28 band is the same as an a cup size with a 34 band. once they get that it's relative to the band size, it starts to make much more sense.

The letter is the cup size, the number is the size of the strap that goes around your back. Higher the number, larger the size.

No, you don't. If you were to understand bra sizing, then you could explain why that friend of yours with DD's has bigger boobs than you.
So, let me clear it for you: the number, or band size, is the size of your ribcage. The letter, or cup size, is the difference between your bust and underbust measurement. The letters are the ratio between the bust size and band size. 32G will have a smaller cup (less volume) than a 34G, even though they are both G cups. Bras also have "sister sizes". This means that if you go up a band size and you go down a cup size for example, you get a bra with the same volume as the previous one.

Cup size is the size of the "cup" holding the boob.

So 30B The 30 is the size around the body, the B is the cup size.

The band size is the size of the band. This is based on the distance around your rib cage

the cup size is the size of the cup IN RELATION to the band size. It's not a measurement of volume.
For example, a 32DD would have the same volume as a 30E

Alright. The numbers are the diameter of your ribcage just under your boobs. So 26 is small and 32 is chubby. The letter (A, B, C etc.) is the cup size.
When you look at it like that, it really isn't very complicated, is it?
But my friend is several cup sizes below me, yet her boobs are twice the size of mine :P
