Why don't men understand how bra sizes work?

I know several men who claim they are boob menThey have no idea how bra sizes work! For example, a thin lady with large boobs such as Sophia Vergara wears a 32F. Most men would look at that and say 38DD! Truth is although the cups increase (mostly in width) with the band size, the band size Is relative to ones Weight! A 40 inch band is technically meant for a plus sized body, no matter what the cup size is! I hear so many guys talking about 40DDs on a stripper when in fact her actual size should be like a 30H!

Out of College I got a job in Executive Management working for a Department store. This was a long time ago!! My first Managing job was to be in charge of Ladies Fashions in a branch store. My "Lead" sales lady was 50 years old and told me directly if I am going to be working this department I needed to know a lot about sizing ladies clothes.

That included lessons about the difference between a size 5 and size 6! One for juniors and one for ladies! Next came bra's! The band measures around her chest just under her boobs! The cup is the size of the breast itself!

My girlfriends always end up being 32B! I also prefer long hair brunettes with green eyes. Just saying!

Guys don't need to know. When a guy talks about bra size it doesn't have to be accurate because he's not buying a bra. Guys use bra size lingo to compare/rate how a bra looks to his eyes which has nothing to do with precise measuring. It's really about proportions. That's why he could think a woman is 'flat' in one bra/outfit and has a nice size in another. get it?

But now you know how a guy feels when he hears a woman talking about car engines.. unless she's one of the 1,800 women in the U. S. who work on cars.

And you probably can sort of get why it was better back when women were smart enough not to talk about their weight numbers or bra numbers. Now with online dating & attention whoring, women give a lot of details (FAKE usually) before even knowing the guy. This will also warp his sense of numbers.

A wide ribcage isn't necessarily a good thing... not unless a man prefers a plus sized woman.

A big ribcage, like 38 for example, means a larger bodied woman. 40 and up is generally considered to be plus sized as many stores only carry up to 38 bands REGARDLESS of cup size.

The bra cups do increase in width as the number on the band increases to encompass the wider breast.

38C would indicate a heavy set woman with only average sized breasts that are small in proportion to their body.

A skinny girl with big boobs such as Sophia Vergera needs a 32F. Many women need 30, 28 or even smaller bands with larger cups sadly these are hard to find.

A plus sized woman with proportionally small breasts might need a 40B which is also a hard to find size.

Most women wear the wrong size of bra. Generally it is a band to wide for the ribcage, and a cup or so too small. this means the bra band will fit loose around the ribcage offering no support for the breast, and cups that sort of sit loose on the breast... this causes sagging and back pain!

The band is meant to be very tight and the cups should encompass the entire breast. So next time a skinny girl talks about being a 36+ribcage tell her to get a professional fit!

@dawnlind92It 's like you didn't read what I wrote. A guy's talk about bra size usually has nothing to do with how women use those numbers to shop for bras. It doesn't matter if he's wrong because he's not buying a bra. Some guys know EXACTLY what bra sizes mean. Others don't. Regardless there's a lingo guys use about bra sizes just to communicate to other guys. NOT to the worker at the bra store or to women.

Now you could be 1000% right about women wearing the wrong bra size but the point is men don't care if you or some woman had 30 years to figure that out but didn't think it was important enough to get right. We got other more important things to deal with in our own lives.

But In all reality my boyfriend is a so called booby boy and bragged for 30 years about ladies being 42DD... in all reality 42 is a huge ribcage, so a plus sized lady with large boobs

Lol I'm a M cup and boyfriend thinks he can go to any store like Target and buy my bra. His mom is pretty big and he said she can give me her bras because she bought the wrong sizes from the thrift store and she's a triple D the only reason hers look really big as well is because she's skinny. I think some will just look and see that it's big or small and just think it could be the same size.

All I know is stores like Victoria's secret suck. They dont often enough sizes and the sizes aren't accurate.
Sophia Vergara wears a 32F for example.
When guys talk about skinny girls with big boobs having 42DDs I just laugh!
A 42 is "plus sized" regardless of how big the cup is!

Yes I think most think boobs have to be 34C or higher to be big. I have 28DD boobs and many think I wear a bigger size. Thinner busty women wear smaller band sizes with larger cups.
I think sister sizes don't work though. They don't fit like your actual size.

I agree. The cup gets wider because the body is supposed to be wider with a wide ribcage. The actual boob doesn't protrude more with a wide band.
Yet guys tend to think a skinny girl with big boobs wears a 42DD
40 is a plus sized body regardless of the cup size!
That said most girls wear the wrong size and stores don't offer sizes for thin girls with big boobs or plus sized with small boobs... for example a 40C cup is hard to find as is a 32E

There are many reasons for this. Some women want to be modest. They don't want to admit to having a 32F when 36D seems a little more modest for example.

Also PROPERLY fitted bras are difficult to find when a woman is tiny with huge boobs... it is not unusual for women to have a 30F cup but it's very hard to find in stores!

Also some bra fitters are brain dead. I am thin with smaller breasts but I'm still a 32C
Stupid Victoria's secret workers measured me at a 36A. I had to go to a PROPER fitting bra specialist to get my actual size!

Apparently I was misinformed. I thought it was as you are saying. The band is the ribcage circumference and the cup size is the size of the breasts.

I remember telling my boyfriend I wanted implants.
I am slim, I wear a 32 band and a B cup. He told me I'd make a good 38C.
38C is slightly overweight with average boobs. I am a 32 B.
I asked him why on earth I should get fat and he was all confused he's like 55 and been a so called boob man and professional bra size guesser for years
Another time he estimated a thin girl with full boobs as a 38B when she was a 32D 😂🤣

I'm aware that the number is the underbust/torso measurement and that the titty volumes letter is some kind of percentage of the bust number. I know depending on weither she's a 32 or 44 a softball size boob could be like 32dd or a 44b. Same size boob but for some reason, some genius decide to call them different thinks on different women depending on her underbrush measurement.

Plus the letters aren't always consistent, some tiny girl with small boobs on here told me she had H cups, how's that make sense?

If I like what I see I don't care what the size is, hell I don't know what my girlfriend wears and we've been dating over a year, never once thought to read her bra or ask her.

1st off not every man is a boob man, not every man likes small boobs, medium sized boobs, not every man is a fan of breast implants either be grateful that this is the reality.

So, it is true man boobs exist but those with them don't go around were a bra. They wear a suppression piece, which is something akin to a sport bra I would guess.

Lots of men think band size is the same as cup size but it's not.
Technically a very slim woman should wear about a.30 band... the cups may widen with the number because the breasts widen with the body (not the same as cup size!)... but the protrusion is the same.
But the band is simply longer.
A Skinny girl whether she's got small breasts or large, should be wearing a.32 inch band at the most because her ribcage is small when if she's got huge boobs on top... if I make sense.
A band too loose means discomfort and no support

My boyfriend once said I should go for a 40C (I wanted implants) I am a 32B and laughed at him. A 40C is plus sized but only a c cup like wtf would I want to be plus sized?

I had a friend with an F cup who said she was a C. She was self conscious of her size so she said they were smaller which made sense.

The thing is, so many people need 26, 28, 30 and even 24 bands. Yet, they don't even realize it, because how could they be these sizes, when these sizes aren't even found in stores?

Many sources tell you to add 4 inches to your underbust while measuring, which is why so many people who need 28 bands are wearing 32 bands, so many people who need 32 bands are wearing 36 bands, and so on. It's a terrible problem and it's caused so many people to have a skewed perception of bra sizes.

When you add 4 inches, you also narrow the difference between your band and bust, which is how cup size is calculated. Someone with a 30 inch underbust and 39 inch bust would be a 30G UK (and 30I US). If this person adds 4 inches to their underbust, they get 34 and 39 which would put them in an ill fitting 34DD. That's why people think 'DD' automatically means huge. Because people with big boobs are wearing WAY too small cups. Similarly, people with small boobs often wear A and B cups when they should be wearing D+. For example, Zendaya is probably like a 28C/D yet most people would think she's an AA/A cup at most.

I think perhaps another issue is modesty? Girls are under the assumption D cups are huge or something and don't want to admit to wearing anything bigger than that...

His friend is probably needs a lot bigger cup size but wears what's readily available!

Most laugerie stores don't fit people properly and don't have a good variety of bra sizes which is probably quite frustrating for many women...

Most men don't bother to learn how anything having to do with women actually works and just fantasize numbers. You'd think bras would be one of the easiest things for us to understand as it's the one piece of women's clothing with an actual measurement for the strap length and increasing letters for increasing cup size.

Men typically don't have boobs, also, why do bras not have a third, forth, or fifth measurement summery, there is one for band size, one for volume, but not ones for shape, length, or width of the breast? Going up in letter size doesn't mean uniform expansion in all directions.

The band is the rib cage. The width of the bra widens as well because the body is bigger with a bigger band

Clothing size in general for women is very diverse. For me it is like going to the hardware store. Lots to choose from, but I don't know it till I have to use it. Once I use the tool then I know it. But since I don't ever need a bra it isn't something I feel the need to know all about.

It is that we never have experience wearing a brassiere. Therefore, we do not know anything about women sizes. This is the majority of us men.

I had to dress up as a woman for Halloween. I gone to stores to get fitted for a brassiere. It was a different experience because I didn't decided on style of my dress. So, I was receiving a bra education from a bra fitter at Nordstrom.

I'm a woman and I barely understand how bra sizes work. Heck, sizing on clothes for women in general is just plain ridiculous. I've everything from xs-xl in my closet, bras of different sizes & it all fits me perfectly.
