When a guy smiles to himself?

there's this guy that I keep seeing around and he's smiling when he sees me from far away but when is close doesn't, recently we were walking past each other and he was really close he didn't look up at me but noticed that I was there he looked at my bottom half (I mean he saw me but didn't make eye contact) and smiled really widely to himself?

thanks for your reply, I have never spoken to him. he's always with his guy mate so makes it harder. there's loads of other pretty girls in the class but I never see him looking at them, I wouldn't believe he could be shy he seems reserved but confident, if he's doing it in the jerk way then that would totally put me off

If he sees you and then smiles, then he's not smiling to himself, he's smiling to you. Whether he's doing it intentionally, he conveying that he's friendly and that you make him happy. He's shy, or he just doesn't know the right words to say to you yet, but I'm sure he's running it through his mind.

Yes, smile at him back if you're interested, otherwise he'll think you don't like him if you don't give him a sign and he may move on and lose interest

he's a lot taller than me and he's always with his friend and their quite manly compared to the other boys in my classes

But he smiles at you, that means he's telling you he's not a mean guy. When someone smiles at you, they're saying "I'm friendly, come and talk to me". Maybe not those exact words, but you know what I'm trying to say. I'm sure he's intimidated by you also, otherwise he would've came and talked to you already
