Who buys the condoms in a relationship?

I'd say we have a pretty even relationship when it comes to paying for dates as we take turn paying.

However, I was asked to start chipping in for condoms. I feel a little bit offended, is It socially acceptable to ask your girlfriend to buy condoms?

As the relationship is already 50/50 in terms of paying for dates.

Also asking your girl to go 50/50 on condoms sort of takes the away the 'make her feel special' part. Might just be me.

It's tricky. If that is the only contraception device, I may say that it is just like dinner. If both are on a "he pays because he can afford it" or "she pays because she can afford it" I don't see why not, If both are on 50/50 then it's like when you go out with your friends right?
With them you are not too picky about who pays dinner or chips this time, you just pay this one, he pays the other one, or both put a bill/coins at the same time on the counter, and you don't keep tabs on each other, just keep it cool and have fun.

Well personally speaking, I am a fan of traditional realationships where the guy pays for the dates and stuff like that plus I mean I myself by pads and hair products and the other stuff that is traditionally a girls responsibility to take of so if we're going half on condoms we're going half on all that too. But if buying condoms is a problem in you guys' relationship then you guys could find a place where they give them out for free.

um pretty sure it's dudes since their the ones who need it and the ones who it's being produced for? sure girls can buy it too, but its best for the guy to buy cause he knows what condom fits him best and which ones he likes the most. It would really awkward if she got you ones that are too big or too small.

The girl is the one who has the chance of pregnancy, but the guy is the one that could get her pregnant. It's both parties responsibility and also shows class if the girl wants to pitch half and half. Income is also a factor. If one has little or no income, the one who has more income should get. It's not like just the guy wants to have sex. If the girl also desires sex, then she should pitch.

In a committed, exclusive relationship, though, an implant may be a better choice. Condoms have a higher failure rate, interfere with sensation, and are messy. Asking you to kick in may be his way of bringing up the topic.

If you were on the pill I wouldn't be paying for it either - that's on you. These are petty financial things but important necessities nonetheless. That he would ask is a huge red flag.

It's different with hormonal contraception though, which is funny. I would never ask a guy to help me pay for the pill, I feel like it's expected of me to pay for it myself.

I think it’s because it’s more personal and more medical. A lot of women stay on the pill even when they’re single, or they choose hormonal b. c. for reasons that have nothing to do with preventing pregnancy. This can make it a little less logical to ask a guy to chip in. However, if I was in a relationship with someone, and we discussed birth control options and decided together that I’d get on the pill, specifically for b. c., and it was costing me a lot, then in that situation I’d expect him to chip in.

Does it really make you feel that special that he spent $10 on a pack on condoms in order to have sex with you? Is that really such a romantic gesture that you feel deprived without it? I do understand where you’re coming from, but that’s not how he should be making you feel special in the first place.
