Is it true that your first relationship will always fail?

I always hear this, but I'm not sure if I believe it. What do you think?

My first relationship failed for a few reasons. She was a junior in high school and I was a senior. she was 17, I was 19, and we went to different schools. We had met through work, which people say to never date your coworkers and I found that out the hard way. We went on like two dates, out to a movie and to my high school prom. She went to her school's prom a week before mine, claiming she went with friends. Communication seemed to be a big issue and only got worse. She broke up with me right before I graduated high school, like days before. She claimed her mom didn't like the idea of us dating (her mom is a real estate agent and I don't think she cared for my country boy vibe or charm or the fact I drove a beat up old Chevy Suburban at the time, besides she's one of those helicopter moms... ugh). Weeks later my mom did some digging around and found something suspicious. On her mom's facebook page she had found that my then girlfriend had gone to her school's prom, not with a group of friends, but another guy... she lied to me... I was soooo PISSED off and I also didn't know what to do after that. This was back in 2015 and to this day I STILL will not talk to her and I try to avoid running into her mom any way I can.

My first relationship failed, we were 3,500 miles away from each other and somehow managed to make a year and five months.

To me, there is no "first time's the charm."

The first relationship you have has about a 70% - 80% chance of failing, the love of your life will most likely involve a search.

i personally do not belive that. if the relationship is meant to be then it will last if it is not meant to be then it won't last. it depends on the people and if they are both willing to try to work on the relationship and if they both really want it.

Not true. My parents were each others firsts and have been married for 18 years. And I am currently in my first relationship, we've been together for a year and 5 months so far very happily:) I'm not sure if we will last but I certainly hope we do:)

I think so, when we are young we aren't really sure of what we want so we do stuff just to say we tried them.

Yes, I think that would be different, it might work out. I was giving my opinion from my first relationship which was when I was 13 & it lasted about half a week.

Yes, & I would also blame it on our generations. Like the anonymous user above me said her parents just like mines were eachothers first relationship & they've been together for 23 years so I guess generations matters too. Nowadays, kids date a lot more than we did when we were in middle school.

My first failed, it lasted for 6 years but I was young, and foolish. Since then I have learned what I should have done. I was her second, so she at least had more experience than me. But it doesn't always fail, it could have lasted between my first. I have known a few people that married their first.

Why I think it is said and mostly true, is because you never know for certain whether your first is "the one" until you have actually tried more than one. So can it last yes, will it last, probably not. If you are old enough or have matured enough to know what is out there, then maybe it will last. Otherwise, it probably fails more than lasts.

Yes, it will almost always fail.

And I'd pick that one. Why? first relationships usually start at a young age and the person isn't very experienced and may not know how to act properly(or compromise) or know what they want in a relationship. I'd say the fail rate is 95% at least IMO, especially when most people go through more than half a dozen relationships in their life time--from what I've heard. Not to mention the high 50% divorce rate in the U.S.

There are 3.5 billion women (and an equal number of men) out there, give or take a few 10s of millions. Sure, there's probably one or two out there with whom you'd never have any problems in a relationship, but the odds aren't good. Most relationships have their stressors, and the vast majority of people who haven't had a relationship yet have no idea how to handle relationship problems. You might be able to wing it past the first one or two, but it's probably not going to last forever.
