Bipolar friend has blocked me on social media and possibly his phone. What are the chances he will ever talk to me again?

He is my best guy friend right now and both of us have expressed a possible interest in having a relationship with one another depending on how our friendship goes. However, he just got out of a manic phase and is in a deep depression where he does not leave his house unless he absolutely has to, is rarely active on social media, and supposedly is not answering calls or texts from anyone. I have been sending him a daily text saying "R u doing okay?" and "please tell me you are alright" as the last time I spoke with him on the phone he was very upset and despondent and I am worried about him doing something terrible and possibly harming himself (he does not take any medication for his bipolar disorder). Every now and then he will text me back saying he just wants to be left alone, that he's angry at the world and everyone in it.

Three days ago he apparently had enough of my texts and told me he was going to block all contact with me forever. Immediately he blocked me on Facebook and I sent him a couple of texts within hours after his telling me he would block me that have not been responded to. The last text I sent to him three days ago said I've never been blocked by anyone in my life and that I don't live my life like that and I don't play those types of games.

My question is for those who are bipolar or have dealt with people who are bipolar, in your opinion do you think this block is permanent or do you think he will one day unblock me again when he gets out of his depressive phase?
