When a guy doesn't return a hug?

so basically, the guy I am interested in(who I hangout with regularly at school) walked me to one of my classes. I wanted to give him a hug good bye, so I did. But it felt kinda awkward because when I hugged him - he didn't return it. He just kinda stood there without a reaction for like two seconds til I laughed it off and said "fine don't hug me." I noticed he had this kinda weird facial expression(like he seemed bothered or was unsure) and then he ruffled my hair and left. There were some of my classmates near us- so I'm not sure if it`s because of that. I don`t want to overthink this - but what could it mean?

A lot of guys(unlike a lot of girls) would feel really bad about leading a girl on. We tend to feel awkwardness and a bit of guilt about letting a girl down. because we tend to feel immensely flattered, and will like you a little bit just for liking us. I remember I was in this youth group and thid girl had a crush on me (she was younger than me, I was a youth leader in the program, she was extremely talkative, nice but sorta arrogant and aloof from the group, probably a product of her being the daughter of rich Republican parents) it was a two week long live in program and people often gave each other hugs before everyone went to bed and I remember trying to avoid running into this girl, during that little goodnight hug fest and make it seem as if there wasn't time or something. I wasn't sure about her either way at the moment. As you probably know with men our turned onness, especially when it comes to physical contact is fast, so he may want to avoid getting into a hug that lets face it, is going to be somewhat erotic if you like him, because he would probably go with the hug because he's a guy and a woman's body pressed against us almost always feels good, if he doesn't want to be your boyfriend, he tries to avoid it as to not show interest he doesn't have in the heat of the moment. That girl ran into me and asked do I get a hug, so I had to hug her and it was sorta a heart melting warm and fuzzy moment, but I didn't want that because it didn't work. She was basically opposed to what the program was about and a stick in the mud and I was supposed to be helping run it. None of this is that relevant to your question so I'll stop rambling. She had a lot of nice qualities as a person and she was very cute when it came to looks so it made it complicated for me.

If it were me I would say space issues. It puts me in an awkward position when I get a hug like that and makes me feel weird. I'm not just a fan of that kind of contact.

maybe he's not a hugger (which is why it's awkward), or maybe (from the ruffling of the hair) he's trying to tell you he sees you like a sib... cause sibs pat you on the head and ruffle your hair

hm, he isn't really a hugger I suppose. I haven`t ever seen him hug anyone either. He is a bit of a reserved guy. And I am contemplating that he might not like me back - if it weren`t for some signs he showed before(staring, some nervousness, teasing, etc.)

space issues. it's happened to me before too. I've not returned hugs, and I can sense that the girl(s) normally are taken aback and begin to wonder if they did something "bad," when I just didn't feel comfortable to be hugged :)

A couple of women have done that to me and and I did the same thing. If I don't return a hug it means I don't like the girl.

I don't think he's into you. I don't know any guy would react that way to a girl he likes. Time to find another guy.
