+1 yWell, there's lots of potential reasons why.
-Some guys just don't like being touched. Even with people they're close with, they might prefer minimal physical contact. Make sure to respect this!
-If the guy is in a relationship, he's probably just really uncomfortable with the idea of sharing that kind of contact with a girl, with the usual exceptions of family and women much older, obviously. Or, he's trying to respect his girlfriend who may not be okay with stuff like that from other girls. Some might say that she's insecure and possessive, but I think that's rather cruel. A lot of people might feel that way, some are just better at hiding it or don't get AS bothered by it though there are some lingering weird feelings there about it. Not to mention, most insecure people are that way for a reason. Don't take it personally and please don't feed her insecurities. If she's going to heal from whatever made her insecure, she can't exactly start any kind of progress if people are feeding into it. This goes for both guys and girls who are insecure, mind you.
-He doesn't know you well enough to allow that. This could also fall under the first reason, but some people are very affectionate with people they are comfortable with, yet come across as distant from someone they aren't comfortable with yet. Even if you two have known each other for some time, this could still happen. I would observe how he is with hugs around people you know he is comfortable with.
-He is just having a bad day. Was he acting differently than usual? Maybe more quiet and withdrawn? More irritable? Sad for some reason? While a lot of people welcome physical affection when they're feeling down/upset, there's plenty that don't at all and refer to have space, or just vent to you without the affection.
Overall, just look at his behavior and life. If he's acting differently, has a girlfriend, has issues going on etc. I wouldn't worry about it too much. I would ask if something was wrong if say, he was previously fine with hugs from you, has nothing going on in his life that's too bad, and is still acting completely like himself around his friends while being noticeably more cold around you

That he has personal reasons to keep a social distance from you. And just to be clear that may have nothing to do with you. For example some guys are taught to not hug women as children because their parents have oversexualized breasts.
If he isn't showing other signs that he doesn't like you then I wouldn't be too concerned.

Print This Coupon & Give It To Him If You Want. A hug is a hug & everyone needs a hug from time to time but if those hugs keep happening to frequently it could make some people a little uncomfortable.
As for me I’ll never turn a hug down but some people will. As for the man that keeps rejecting your hugs anything is possible. It’s possible he is in a relationship or married. It’s possible he’s not into you. It’s possible he doesn’t want to lead you on. It’s possible he doesn’t like girls. It’s possible you smell or your perfume stinks. It’s possible your hugs suck or you aren’t a good hugger.
If you want to give him a hug you can always ask & see where that leads or doesn’t.

Have to agree that's probably the most common reason. I've done that. Was not interested in her and didn't want her to get the wrong idea.
+1 ySome people are less comfortable with physical affection, especially in certain contexts. Maybe it has to do with his cultural background or personal beliefs and is reserved about physical contact.
Personally though I believe he could be naturally shy or uncomfortable with physical closeness. I knew a guy who didn't like hugs because his lack of confidence caused his lollipop to raise during physical closeness and hence he avoided it.
30 Reply1.7K opinions shared on Guy's Behavior topic. Is it a friend or a partner? If it’s a partner that’s a red flag , if they never rejected your hugs before , but If it’s something they always pretty much rejected than it means they just don’t like being touched , some people can’t handle touch like others’ can

+1 ySome people are just not confortable with being hugged or touched in general, set aside social obstacles. Sometimes a little vanity, kind of "I'm not a child anymore"... Otherwise there may be a lot different reasons some other people here mention.
10 Reply369 opinions shared on Guy's Behavior topic. Possibly that he is concentrating on something and you've chosen a really bad time to be distracting.
Possibly that you're touching him in an uncomfortable place without warning.
Possibly that he is annoyed at you for something you did and is trying his best to communicate it in womanese (i. e. by not communicating). Men aren't good at this generally, but will try as a means of finding a middle ground... or sometimes just to be petty.20 Reply768 opinions shared on Guy's Behavior topic. It means he doesn’t want you to touch him or not comfortable with physical contact from you or anyone. Stop pushing it if he clearly said no the first time. No is no.

+1 yA few things come to mind:
Doesn’t want to lead you on. Not attracted to you.
Or he sees you are too friendly to guys including himself (and/or girls in a romantic/sexual way) and wants you all to himself, in which case he doesn’t want to get mixed up with you romantically and would rather find a more exclusive partner.
3: He’s a germophobe. I’ve heard some guys are and it’s kinda unmanly in my opinion.00 ReplyHe's not in that rare (for men) non-loveing feel and it creeps out. Might even say it scares us. 👰 But not commitment, nah, it's just some weird feeling that feels bad. I know y'all are girls, there for perfect but, you have to have that similar gut wrenching grip that makes you say, " yuck".💘 At least once a month.🩸
10 Reply1.4K opinions shared on Guy's Behavior topic. Smart man. He knows that a woman can accuse him of sexual harassment & if he touched her even innocently it can be used against him later since her perception/impression matters more than his intentions.

If I came up to you and kept trying to hug you, and you kept rejecting me, and I still kept trying to hug you, what meaning should I take from that?
It's really not difficult to figure these things out.

he is likely not interested, if this is a guy you're pursuing romantically
if this is a friend, he probably doesn't like being touched/too close to people
