For people who were sexually abused as children, is it normal behavior if later in life you over-indulge in sex and alcohol?

I heard that because you were sexually abused as a child that it alters what is normal behavior later on in life or that it makes your brain crave sex. Kind of like a drug or something. It also indirectly makes you more vulnerable to have this behavior happen to you again in life if you don't get help. Your view on men get's skewed to the point where the man that abused you, you may not want to be with a man like this every again, but your brain is altered and geared to that type of guy to go after because it happened when you were a child so it was in a way a part of how you grew up a how you know how men are and that it is natural in a f*cked up way. You should get some sort of counselling to help you get your brain back on track. Having sex early on could just be the reason why you like sex so much now. It's just norm for you and not an abuse thing. The alcohol could be from a gene in your family of alcoholism.

It would seem rather logical, so yes. The environment you grow up in as a child could instil some behaviours passively into you without realising it. Although if you are having problems coping with such past trauma it is advisable to go seek professional counselling.

Yes, this is very true.

I was sexually abused as a child for two years. I was 10-12. By the time I reached 14 and 15 I was wearing extremely provocative clothing, just to catch guys attention. (older guys to be exact). I had 20 year old asking me out at 14 and 15, and they never asked how old I was and I of course didn't tell them. My mom realized what was going on with my behavior. We got in a fight about my clothing choices and I told her about what happened to me. (When it happened I was with my biological mother, but I confessed to my adopted mother). She called a counselor and got me help. Luckily though, I never actually had sex with any of the men I was hanging around and trying to impress, though I would have if my mom didn't help me.

Yes. Unfortunately it's very common. I know many people who were sexually abused and struggle with overdrinking and above average promiscuity. In my case, however, I definitely over-indulge in alcohol beacuse it gives me a "high" and helps me escape intense emotions I'm struggling with. I'm actually not promiscuous at all and over-indulge in sex. I'm actually the opposite.. I'm very guarded and self conscious and have extreme body image issues. I've been told by my therapist that this can also a side effect, but it's a lot less common than promiscuity.

Yes it could but in different ways. I was raped when I was 8 and I went through a period of being really provocative attention seeking and wearing slutty clothes in my early teens. I never lost my virginity but I probably would have if I didn't grow out of that stage. I stopped dressing that way but I started drinking alcohol and popping pills a lot. I stopped that now I just smoke weed but I don't date anyone and I steer clear from guys unless it's just a friend relationship. I don't trust guys at all.

Normal not necessarily. It does tend to be a side effect from emotional problems though. You might want to seek help about it.
