Ladies, how protective are your male friends? And men, how protective are you of your female friends?

Question

I'm asking because I have noticed that my male friends have different degrees of how protective they are of me. For example when a violent patient attacked me, it was my male co-worker and friend that saved me. He admitted to me that his first thought was "she can handle herself but I'll make sure she's okay when I get done here." When he realized that it was a very violent patient, he said he dropped the meds he was carrying along with his clipboard and ran to help me.

And another male friend is making me think he might be interested. He's fiercely protective of me. When a confused patient called me derogatory terms, I didn't even open my mouth before he was already defending me. He got a little carried away because it was clear he was upset and he yelled at my patient before I calmed him down. He later apologized and said he got upset because he doesn't want to see me treated that way. It did work. That patient was never rude to me again and she apologized.

Also, the fact that both my examples were from work shows I work too much.

My male friends tend to be very protective of me. I told one I was just doing some home maintenance projects and he came right over because he didn’t want me to hurt myself. Another male friend was around and volunteering to drive me to appointments when I was sick since he said he was concerned about my welfare and didn’t want me to go through tests alone (it was a cancer scare). Back in high school another guy friend stepped in to tell this guy who would not stop pursuing me to back off (I had already politely turned down his advances but he got more persistent & terrifying).
I think it may just be guys’ nature to be protective of their friends.

They’re very protective. But only in certain cases. One time we were in Vegas walking down the strip and they acted as bodyguards. They got mad whenever I wasn’t in the middle and anytime we had to squeeze pass a group, they always looked back to make sure I was still there. Looking at me every few minutes. But that’s only the two guy friends that would do that. My other guy friends aren’t really protective, probably because we aren’t close. And my best guy friend, isn’t protective at all. He’s gay, and sort of a feminine type. So he’ll be scared with me.

I get protective of my female friends who don't stand up for themselves. I get protective of anyone who doesn't do a's ant up for th ed mself enough, males included. It's just that usually men will push b as ck hard if you try to roll over them, so they learn to become strong and enjoy the advantage of putting their interests over others, so usually they don't need much protecting.

I noticed this mostly from older men and guys my age. My male co-workers don’t want any women involved in fights between students. I almost had a fight in my room and a guy decked another in the face. A male teacher had came in my classroom and pulled me out by my arm and then wrestled another guy against the wall.

The few times my ex left the house with me I noticed that when another was guy was looking at me he’d stand up straighter and pull his shoulders back. I told him he did this and he wasn’t even aware of it until I pointed it out.

I think there could be several reasons.
Personally, I would tend to see it as mere professionalism and loyalty towards a coworker you spend a long time with, with the possible expectation that they would do the same for you - regardless of their gender.

But I was raised with my male siblings and not really like a princess. I realize most people don't think the same way and that it is also a cultural thing.
I recalled one time when I and a female friend were going back to the train station in the evening, after going shopping (this was back in Europe). In the way we met this group of 5 highschool girls (delinquents?) who decided they wanted my bags. It was a mess, a lot of yelling, punching and kicking. Amidst the whole thing, I realized my "friend" was standing some good 10 meters away, shouting at them from a distance while I was obviously surrounded by the lousy creatures!!
I digress, but I never saw that friend the same way again. I don't know if a male friend would have behaved differently. Possibly we wouldn't even have been assaulted.

My male Co workers are very protective of me. Whenever they see me walking home in the dark or rain they'll offer me a lift. A while back I was getting cat called outside by the workers at the company opposite and they all went up to the office and complained for me. At the Christmas party one of the men tried to get me drunk so I I'd sleep with him and the rest of them protected me from him, stuck up to him and got me some food to sober up and paid for my taxi home.

a lot of the time I'm complaining about how mean and annoying they can be towards me but deep down they really care, we have a very sibling like relationship and I think they see me as their little sister.

If someone was hurting any of my friends, they would definitely hear from me... once when I was 8, my friend was getting bullied for being heavier by two boys. I shot out "you guys are so mean, you don't just say things like that to people!"They left and didn't say rude comments to her again. I also have some awesome protective guy friends. They won't put up with anyone hurting me.

I'm protective of my female friends (and male friends) where possible depending on the extent to which we are friends. My friends stand up for me as well especially in my absence when I'm under scrutiny. At least that's what I'm made to believe but doesn't happen often

It's a sliding scale, but in general I'm pretty protective unless they have a boyfriend or husband around.
I have one friend who had trouble learning her limits at the bar, so I ALWAYS kept an eye on her while we were out and made sure she got home safely.

What I have noticed is that in my circle of friends, everyone is very protective of each other, but in different ways. A regular pattern is that I along with my male friends tend to be very protective over our female friends in a more direct way that's more noticable, but women tend to be protective in other ways.

Men are naturally the more protective gender. In extreme cases, for example in shooting cases, men tend to throw themselves in front of women to take the bullets for them. I can count the times on one hand when a female friend stuck up for me.

It’s most helpful when another female is being a cunt and running her mouth insulting me while abusing her female privelege (she knows I can’t hit her or making threatening remarks to defend myself). In THOSE scenarios its nice to have a tough female friend. She can say and do things to the bitch that I can’t.

Hmmm, this could go either way. He may be just keeping you safe or he may like you, tough call. I've defended female co workers and not been into them.
