What does it mean when a guy asks for your patience?

I've been sleeping with a guy for almost 3 months sporadically, since he owns his own business. He rarely has time for me do to that and his son visiting every other weekend. Am I wasting my time or should I wait since I would like to see if we have a future.

What's going on right now may be an indication of what the future holds. Some guys get so preoccupied with building a successful business that it occupies all their time and energy. A relationship and family become secondary to the business. Is that what you want?

He probably does like you and wants to see you hang around which is why he's asking you to be patient. But, for how long? Ask for an end date to being patient and I would guess that he can't or won't give you one.

Obviously his business and his son are important to him, so where do you fit in with the schedule. Are you ok with just being fitted in whenever he can get time for you. If it is indeed just a short term delay, then it may be worth hanging around. If you have to be patient for the rest of your life then maybe it isn't worth it.

He needs some time to arrange his life so that he can date you seriously. Figure out how much time you're willing to give him.

Is it only sex, or do you do other things? If there is dating involved, and genuine relationship talk, getting to know one another, etc. then you're alright. He's just busy with life and most likely won't let you too close until he's sure it's serious because it can always backfire when kids are involved.

If it is just sex, well, I would say he is using you. He probably doesn't want a relationship but wants some physical release every now and then. Best thing I can tell you is to just ask him. If he wants a relationship, but needs some time, then you'll know.

That's a lot to have on his plate. I would honestly be patient. Get to know him. Suggest lunches or breakfasts. I had an ex that was in that same situation. However the more he got to know me the longer we would spend time together. I even was introduced to his kids down the road. He took his time with me because he didn't want to be a father who brought around women all the time around his kids (his ex constantly dated and told the kids to call the current boyfriend "dad"). Is he older?
