I was dating a woman who had a male best friend. They did a lot of things together. I then discovered she was having sex with him but she did not consider him a lover.

Could you update your question to define what a "lover" is? If you have sex was someone does that automatically mean you two are lovers?

Yeah, but I advise not doing that. I don't even look at my best friends that are girls in that way because I enjoy being friends more than any possibility of dating. If you date and break up that will ruin the friendship most likely.

depends on what age range the friendship started. what amount of time you've been friends. if you both have deeper feeling for each other. but often once your in the friends zone. your there for life.
