But if they wear something solely for the purpose of prompting some sort of sexual response (like garter or lace), yeah, I just won't care about that (and I may even be off put, depending on how strongly it comes across as).

I think it de-emphasizes the person as the source of their appeal and reduces them to their body parts.
I'm attracted to the person, not their legs, breasts or genitals, so nobody should feel the need to do that to arouse me.
