Is this an emotional affair?

I am currently living with someone who is verbally and emotionally abusive to me. We have been together ten years and it just isn’t working any more. I can’t afford to leave right now though. There is a guy at work that I am attracted to and he is to me. He wanted to date a few months ago but he thought I was taken so he didn’t ask me, he went with his second option. We now talk every chance we get at work and find reasons to work together. On my day off he emails me all the time just to ask how day is going etc etc. There has not been any sexual encounters at all. He may be stopping at some place to help me move my storage units soon cause I need help. Are we having an emotional affair in your opinion?

I guess technically yes but i wouldn't feel bad about it. Right now you need to look out for yourself and get the help you need. Get out of this toxic relationship as fast as you can
