1.3K opinions shared on Relationships topic. Good question. But I hated reading the answers. I don't like this side of men and people. It's ugly. And I'm not interested in debating anyone about this, or supporting this. However...
I don't think it's a good idea to make this a binary choice between a person choosing money or love. Once upon a time, humans (in earlier forms than homo sapien, etc.) survived not on a monetary system at all. They worked with the land and they survived in other ways; although a hell of a lot of people just died.
Gene Roddenberry, who created the OG Star Trek (by far and away the best Star Treks) had some great philosophies, was far ahead of his time, and maybe even this time now. They never seem to deal in currency either. But anyway... the reality is that we do need money to survive. Whether we need love is, I guess, debatable. So there's a necessity with the former that cannot be denied.
But that doesn't take into account all the gross and lame justifications for why love is meaningless, over-rated, bunk, etc etc. And don't let them fool you believing their smokescreens - it comes from selfishness. IT comes from not wanting to put someone else first, or equal to them. Some have been burned and are bitter. Some are bitter because they never never been given the chance, never been appreciated by a lover and partner. Many have decided not to be vulnerable again. Some immaturely and stupidly believe that the beginning stages of heady infatuation and love, and that massive dump of hormones that people get in the beginning, is bitterly taken away from them and they're pissed that it isn't about living in that state forever. And that is just naive.
People rarely feel the same in their 20s as they do at the end of their life. Priorities change, attitudes change. Lying alone, dying alone, is not comforted by piles of money. It is comforted by the love of those in your life, who will care that you're gone. That is love. And there is no replacement for that.00 Reply

A man once told me that he purchased hookers in Thailand for a week or two at a time. He said it was cheaper to do this because it would cost the same if not more to be with a girl here and he may or may not get laid. Whereas in Thailand he was getting laid no matter what. The first thought that came to my mind is this person has been hurt enough somewhere in his life to make it so he does not want to work for love anymore. I have wondered what and why this is. I wonder if some men feel love is too much work in their gender roles as the pursuer. Perhaps love is less becoming of the heart if you are not receiving it. The deepest love of course comes without work. But it rarely lasts beyond its moment. I have loved many times over and life does have a wicked tendency to get in the way. Money is logic and the heart is emotion. People need layers of insurance to avoid pain and suffering when love doesn’t work out. Money is not always easy to come by. For some love comes and goes like the wind. True love exists of course. Money may or may not. We are all vulnerable to our looks to the character or our hearts and to the brilliance of our minds. Attraction is not always there for many. Sometimes Money is all that is available in a world at times challenged with rejection and capitalism.

+1 yFirst of all, the word BETTER is very relative in this context.
I think the reason they say that is because in essence, deep down what they really mean is that "Money is better FOR ME than love".
The difference between money and love in this case is that money is a means to an end. In this person's mind MONEY= HAPPINESS while LOVE= RESTRICTIONS TO MY HAPPINESS.
The difference comes from a more self-centered mindset. I don't mean to make people sound bad, but the reality of the two is that money can buy you anything, while love means giving commitment. Love requires you to give up yourself, to be more selfless and to think of the other person's needs before your own. Some people would just much rather please themselves in life than sacrifice their happiness for someone else.
This is not to say that you can't love and be happy, or that love sacrifices happiness, but the nature of true love is that one person esteems the other as higher than themselves. These people realize this and acknowledge that "love prioritizes attention to someone else", and a more self-centered person would rather keep that attention on fulfilling their own desires instead of putting their needs second, or even last.22 Reply
Asker+1 yThank you for actually explaining your answer... over half the people here don't
- +1 y
Oh yeah I ALWAYS explain, feel free to follow
Because having money makes you life so much easier. Losing all your money sucks, but you won't fel miserable and heartbroken just like with love.
Love feels amazing while it last. Then you will be heartbroken. Getting over the pain and start living again can take years. Love is amazing, but it comes with a huge price, which is losing love, happiness and joy (due to cheating, divorce etc). Is it worth it to pay a huge price while you don't know if it will last? For some people it is worth it, for some it's not worth it. Also, men like their freedom and are afraid they will lose their freedom if tehy are in a relationship.
Also, nowadays love feels unreal, it's not unconditional anymore, it's rare to find true unconditional love. People are getting into a relationship for the wrong reasons, that's why a lot of people are hurt in love and don't believe in love anymore. A lot of people don't know what true love is and how it should feel. A lot of people are selfish and superficial, that's why love won't last for you.
Should you choose money or love? That's your call. Love makes you emotionally happy, while money makes your life easier.10 Reply

+1 yBecause unlike love, money doesn't hurt or disappoint you. And contrary to the old saying, "Money can't buy happiness." In most cases? Yes, it can! Hahaha. I am pretty sure the majority of people on here would be happier if they had more money in life!
That's not to say money is always better than love, or will make everyone genuinely happier at the end of the day. Of course finding true love is a wonderful feeling. But the issue is finding said love. And even then you might fall for someone that winds up hurting you. So to some people, money is like a comforting crutch that won't hurt them; it provides things love or other people are sometimes unable to offer.30 Reply Because they are being intellectually honest and not misunderstanding the question the way you are.
Of course you choose love if you already ARE financially stable.
But that's not the question, the question is ZERO money vs ZERO love.
Wouldn't you choose money if you already WERE romantically stable- aka had a romantic relationship that already satisfies you?
You can't look at the question from the perspective of someone who already is financially stable, that's completely an unfair equation.09 Reply
Asker+1 yNah it isn't. It's my own question. The question could easily be financially stable or stable relationship.
Asker+1 yThe question was not "which is more important to survive" it was "which is better"
- +1 y
Money is better.
Because the fact that you do not have to worry about what you are going to do should you get fired, or fear every snowfall or stronger wind because your house is old and the roof may not hold and you won't have the money to fix it, those are the things people who aren't financially stable have to worry about.
You don't worry about "what I'm going to do if I won't have love tomorrow?" if you are not "love stable", you don't worry about that, it's just going to be another day like the previous day.
People go without love for years, decades or even their whole lives, love is not essential, it's a nice thing to have, a luxury.
But most people don't care about luxury, basic necessities are far more important to them, that's why money is much more important.
Asker+1 yWhen I said "love" I didn't only mean in a romantic sense. Yes. People can live their whole life without love... just won't be a long life.
Asker+1 yYou can't love your family or your friends?
- +1 y
My family are terrible people with whom I'm not really in contact with, and friends don't really matter to me, they come and go, I definitely don't "love them", they are for passing time and for sharing interests.
I'm not interested in close relationships other than romantic ones, in general.
+1 yIf you are hardcore addicted to something (drugs, money, behavior, etc) you will most likely place your addiction higher than anything else.
"Money can buy anything..." Until someone else pays more?
Real love isn't build on money, fame or anything other superficial.
Real friendship isn't either.
So to answer your question. If person A is happier being rich and buying the world. Good for them.
In my opinion they are missing the true experience and feeling.00 ReplyLove is a lot of things; the love you get form your parents is irreplacable and irrelavant to the amount of wealth you have. The love you get from your dog is also irrelavant to the amount of money you make. Besides that there are freinds, lovers, and spouses. Friends can change, desert you when you're bankrupt or even you can attract new people within your sphere of influence if you have money. The divorce rate is over fifty percent, and how much of the remaining is sex-less, romance less love where the spouses are nothing more than roommates.
Money on the other hand, is that money, $5 is five dollars and will pay the bearer the same amount, it's not as unpredictable as love.00 ReplyBecause money is like water and love is like spice. Without water you sort of die slowly or really struggle if you don't have enough.
Without love, you life is bland, boring and tasteless. Not going to die without it, not going to struggle with it and some people can move along just fine without it.51 Reply- +1 y
Good analogy.
+1 yLove makes you feel like you’re on cloud nine for a couple of years, and then it fades into a dynamic of companionship. You enjoy each other’s company, and help each other out. It’s great. But love can also be nasty. Infidelity is becoming more and more common place tagged along with ugly divorces. People are generally selfish these days so the dynamics of relationships have shifted. I can see why some choose career and money over love. I personally value my life experiences, relationships, and girl over my wealth- but that’s my life. A lot of others think differently and are perfectly entitled to that. I try not to judge.

+1 yWell money won't cheat on you, money won't argue with you every day on whether you did or didn't check out that hot waitress, money won't make you buy a crazy ass expensive diamond ring when you just wanted to spend the money on a nice vacation, money won't pressure you into having a big dick and being good in bed, money won't care if you're tall, attractive and the perfect boyfriend, money won't make you insecure but instead will make you confident, money can also get you the hottest girls and you can have sex with them without caring if you have to make them breakfast the other day, money won't pressure you into remembering every fucking important date of hers every year, money won't make a fool out of you because you wouldn't even have to go to her place to apologize... and much more.

Anonymous(30-35)+1 yMoney is better because love wastes time and is costly. Money is a necessity, love is overrated. I find it insanely stupid why people chase after someone for "love" only to be rejected, like most job applications. I'd much rather be productive with me time and make money to secure a better career/lifestyle. If you give me a choice to of finding "love" instantly or taking €20, I'll take €20. I don't have time for this bs called love. I don't need to be loved by someone to be happy. I just need money to be happy. Nothing else in life matters more than money. Nothing else in life will ever matter more than money. The sooner people realise this, the better.

+1 yBecause money is love. When you’re with someone and they have a need, you want to be able to reach into your bank account and make it happen! Money makes love easier and more beautiful, because... “honey, what you need? Cool...” *hands over/ transfer funds* 🥰 see?
10 ReplyIts the logical choice, people these days need money not love. one can buy everything with money these days love don't matter,
Not for guys and not for girls, no one in this world is actually out for love, just for physical needs or bragging or finance nothing else specially not love,
People who say only love matters themselves are with people who have money00 ReplyPeople with money are not happier than those without. They may seem happier because their basic needs are not a big worry. However they have the same problems as everyone else. Money doesn’t buy happiness nor does it buy love and respect. They are not immune from having their heart broken by someone they love. They are not immune from divorce.
A person who is honest with themselves and has confidence is generally happier than someone who has a big bank account. Money has a way of building false pride in people. It can also make people arrogant.00 Reply
+1 yI'm not sure if is quite as simple as believing that money is BETTER than love. And there are different types of love, but lets talk in terms of romantic love. Some people that feel like acquiring money is a more effective use of their time than searching for love. Sometimes you need get money to have financial security. Feeling financially secure can give a person the confidence they need to go out and look for love.

True unconditional love between woman & man is rare as the genders are poles apart in most respects.

Anonymous(18-24)+1 yBecause people can buy fake love with money, but you can't get money easily with loving someone. People want to get both of them (love and money), and some people don't see a big difference between love and fake love. That is why they think if they have a lot of money, they also will get someone's love.

Asker+1 yWell going off of your theory, that would mean they get money to get a girlfriend, isn't that putting love before money in a way? xD
- +1 y
i'm not making the rule of that game. it's just how that works. broke men are considered losers and typically can't attract a girl. that's just how it is. it's not in my power to change that, whether i agree with that or not.
besides on a more general note: being broke means you "probably" don't have your shit together. and if you don't have your shit together, you probably should fix that first, before you get another person to be a part of your life. so technically that would be true for women as well but then again men love the provider role, so it isn't that bad for women as it is for men.
Asker+1 yOf course women don't want someone broke that just means, as you said, that he doesn't have his shit together. I wouldn't want me either if I were broke.
