Is it possible to have no romantic feelings for someone but still be possessive over them?

And if so why? What is the reasoning? Would the possessiveness not be rooted from feelings? If you didn’t have feelings wouldn’t you not care?

Also in the context of a guy being possessive over a girl being romantically / sexually involved with anybody else but he does not have feelings for her however she does have feelings for him

In the past I would have said no but after an experience I had several years ago, I'm not sure now. For a few years my best friend was a woman that I liked as a friend but didn't have romantic interest in. We had a close but completely platonic friendship and had both made it clear to each other that we only wanted a platonic friendship. We tried to help each other find people to date and so I was pretty sure it was purely platonic, but when I met someone and started developing a relationship with her, my friend started acting weird like a jilted lover. She refused to meet my new girlfriend. I was hurt by that. I expected her to be excited that I'd found someone.

I still don't understand why and now only have occasional contact with that friend. My girlfriend thinks that maybe even though my friend didn't want a romantic/sexual relationship with me, she was upset that I had a girlfriend because she liked doing things with me and was worried that I'd stop wanting to do that. I suppose that's possible and is the only reasonable explanation I've heard.

They could still care about you, even if no romantic feelings. Which sometimes makes people that way. I had an ex/friend in high school. We were only friends, but (as I found out years later in adulthood), she used to "scare away" any girls that were ever interested in me. Supposedly to "protect me". I was quite upset when she told me that. But it was years ago, and I know her heart was in the right place, but still upsetting to me.

Also everyone likes to be liked. She knew I still liked her at the time also, which I think she liked. She didn't want to loose that attention I think?

You could be possessive about a longtime and dear friend. You could feel the same way about your child/children. Those aren't romantic. But it's how that possessiveness is expressed that would be telling.

The ONLY reasons to feel protective/possessive about a friend/child would be because you think the person they're involved with isn't a good person, etc..,

If those aren't the reasons, then there might be some underlying dysfunction and denial on the parent/friend's parts. Friend/parent feels they'll "lose" their friend/child to this new person. A serious relationship is clearly a threat to someone who's always been around.

But relationships have to be flexible in nature to endure. They change according to circumstances. If the friend can't understand this, the friendship may not be a healthy one.

Thats happen so often we us girls. I talk about girls because i dont know if also that happen to men ok? Well girls mostly want to keep the guy as possible date even if they are not interested in dating him but dont want him to date anyone else either. So confusing yeah but it happen a lot.

It's absolutely possible. If someone is giving you a lot of attention and you think it might be slipping away to someone, or something else, you can get possessive about it. There doesn't need to be a romantic involvement, just the loss of attention.
