Do you believe in being always available?

If you’re always available no one would respect you and your time. How can you always be available to everyone? Surely you’re needed at the same times at some point? Also… when are you available to yourself? Its important to be there for people when needed… are people making themselves available for you?
I think we all want to be there for people when needed and in certain situations we drop what we’re doing for others… but it’s dependant on the situation. When something is available all the time it becomes less effective.. and whilst the thought is there…. It’s devalued by the fact it was expected. It’s a comfort blanket that eventually doesn’t comfort anymore!
No, you need your own time to be by yourself, otherwise you'll go crazy.
I agree 100% But... Coming from someone who has operated at higher levels of government. You don't have much time for one on one's. Always be available means, your always willing to bring someone with concerns into whatever social group you have around you then. Being a leader means your creative and well rounded enough to play moderator and get the information you need out of radically different people while maintaining a casual atmosphere. Some people have a talent for it, so may of our leaders now don't.
Nope.
I was gone once for a couple of weeks and the conversation I had with my boss went like this after I was at work for 15 minutes:
B: what's the status of this, where are you on this, who is working in that? (Various projects I managed)
M: I don't know, I've been gone for two weeks
B: when I go on vacation on vacation I keep track of my projects
M: when I go in vacation I don't care what happens, this place could burn down for all I care.
I then turned and walked away.

Depends on your job, but for me it's a no, if I am on time off or just off duty hours, my boss knows not to message or call me especially for anything work related as I don't ever have my phone turned off and I don't answer it. I also don't check my work Emails ever because I don't use a computer at work and the fact they set me up with an email 4 years ago when I was in sales and had to deal with customers but expect me to check my emails even if I no longer use a computer at work is pretty funny.
Oh HELL NO!
Some of the most successful people I know from different walks of life all say its vital to take time off. If you're available 100% of the time you're going to burn out in short order. It's not sustainable.
Aside from not being practical from a humans-need-sleep position, your body and mind have a need to take time away to regroup.
Even Christ took time out from being with His disciples to be alone so He could centre Himself.
There's nothing wrong with it but don't over work yourself and not make time for u. people will see that and take advantage. Yes I know its more money but its not worth it unless u really need the money. So if you're content with working all those hours then thats all that matters
It may initially appear noble. however, if you have children, or other pressing responsibilities, you'll inevitably have to chose between your boss, or your kids. You won't get fired but, your boss won't look with the same reverence.
I think it's important to have boundaries with friends and family. I really enjoy my alone time so the ones i love the most know that. There are understanding. I'm lucky
well I try to spend time with everybody who needs it but I find it hard to always be available. ┐(~ー~;)┌
I'm a manager... my job is to be available 24/7
but, like @Andres77 said it very well.. it's just not always possible to manage that.
I don't. If you'd allow a clingy person, you're eventually going to live your life for them, while you shouldn't. Live your life for you. We all have our lives, sometimes we need space, I sure do
I don't, I don't like to be disturbed during weekends or very late in the evening when I'm at home resting or with family. I can help if there's an emergency but I won't feel bad if I'm unreachable at a certain time.
No one can be ‘always available’. That’s the fast track to burnout! Everyone needs to take time to logout, turn off and tune out!
At work yeah because that's more money in my pocket, taking on more responsibility and being available means I get priority for time off or overtime, etc.
No. If you don’t have the time to be available, don’t force yourself to be available. Disaster will only happen
Fuck, I used to believe in the "always on" work culture but it will burn your ass out. I had bosses and responsibilities on the East and West coast, so my phone, email, texts, would start at 0500 and not end until 8:30pm or so. Too much stress.
Hell no, at least not to my employer. They need to respect my work hours.
It's not good too always be available. People start taking you for granted and everything will be one sided.
For certain people yes I would drop everything not everyone though your circumstances are different to mine
Yes I think it is a good thing unless it comprises lessure and family and healthcare as they are both human rights
Nope, being available all the time leads to people not respecting your time and boundaries. And then people will walk over you.
No, if you're always on you're under performing.
Henry Ford only worked 4 hours a day. It makes you maximize your effectiveness.
Beyond a job, yes because I am quite a complete person. State of Nirvana you know.
No, because that can lead to a person being taken advantage of.
Absolutely not. I'm 95% self investment and interest first then 5% towards my family.
Hell no, absolutely not, it’s a job, not your entire life, and they sure as Hell won’t pay you extra for being Johnny on the spot.
It's good to be available quite often but in reality things happen in life that make us unable and we all need breaks from work.
No. I need time to myself.
Blah blah blah is politics all you talk about now?
Boy ur boring
I'm sorry it's boring.
Relax ffs
I'm a chronic workaholic. So, I am available.
Accessible, yes.
Available, not possible.
No. Im not a charity organization
