How do you learn to love yourself and What is self love examples?

Treating yourself as you would a close friend or someone you love.
Letting yourself make mistakes, understanding there will be bad days and shit will happen, and accepting that.
Allowing yourself to be "selfish" you don't owe anyone anything, you give or help others because you want to, not because you feel you should, or if they make you feel guilty.
Spending time to really think about yourself, your values, what's important to you, why you do things, why your goals are important to you, ways you can improve or help yourself, like restructuring goals.
Find something small to be thankful for. I. e. a bed to lie on
Do something small that I enjoy. I. e. play with my dog, or listen to a song I like, giving someone a gift.

All very hard to do, I still hate myself, but I try to do some of these when I can.

For me I figured out a while ago that God made me and God doesn’t make junk. So learning about my gifts by seeing how I can help others always builds my self esteem and self love. When I feel I need a recharge I will pray or go back to those habits and hobbies that bring confidence and remind me how special I am. Also I learned to take care of my body and mind so that I can help others

I think there are 70 year olds who struggle with loving themselves. So it’s a daily intention and is all about action and not sitting still

The term was always a bit difficult for me since I prefer the idea of "self-acceptance" and overcoming fear. Yet I think you can develop a fairly realistic and positive image of yourself through self-acceptance and overcoming fear. I suspect very often that at the root of self-loathing is often fear.

For example, I see guys on here who might have been rejected a few times by girls and they spiral into negativity like, "I'm not worthy of women, I'm so unattractive, etc." But I think at the heart of the issue is that they've likely become afraid of being rejected and hurt again. Their self-esteem plummets because of that fear.

As another example, I've seen people in my school try a sport for the first time and did poorly, like falling on their butt and probably feeling very embarrassed. But then instead of trying again, they start spiraling into negativity like, "I'm not good at this. I'll never be good at this. I'm horrible at sports." And it sticks and damages their self-esteem, but I think it was originally their fear of repeated failure and/or embarrassment that started working towards self-loathing.

So I really think tackling and overcoming our fears, whatever they are, is the key to building confidence and a positive but realistic sense of self. I'm less into exercises like looking into a mirror and telling ourselves that we're beautiful over questioning why we need to feel beautiful in the first place and what fears we might have if we aren't so beautiful, and tackling those fears.

I also think "acceptance" is ultimately "love". It's like I love not only the good points of my wife but also her imperfections. I accept the whole imperfect bundle that is her, just like I accept this whole imperfect bundle that is me. So I think it's okay to admit to ourselves that we're flawed, but so is everyone, and accepting that as I see it is a key to loving ourselves, and others, properly.
