My wife doesn’t want to cook?

I’ve worked 3 hours per day more than my wife, and cooked every meal along with walking the dog every day... now I’ve broken my leg my wife won’t cook and is giving me a really hard time about even getting me a coffee in the morning.

have I been too soft from the start by doing everything? (This is not a case of her career is better than mine because I earn more)

It’s not you, but it’s your wife that’s the problem…. I’m sorry to hear about that… maybe have an open discussion to know why is it difficult for her and express needing her support? If she still declined w/o empathy and respect, just know you deserve better and someone who will love you like how you love them. Sorry you’re going through this… I would suggest getting extra support from family, friends, and door dash (if you’re in the U. S.)/food delivery for the time being.

I had the same issue earlier in my marriage. I broke my foot and was on crutches. My husband refused (and still refuses) to cook. Fine. But it hit home when I asked him to bring me a glass of water, since he was already in the kitchen getting something for himself, and it came with dirty looks and a remark. Trust me when I tell you she won't care of you're literally dying at some point. She'll just want you to hurry up and get it over with.

Like with anything, if anybody says they don’t want to do something, they have every right because no one can be forced to do anything they don’t want to. I myself have broken my leg twice now and I never sat around expecting anyone to do something for me that I was still capable of doing myself. And not once did I say I wouldn’t help someone if they asked me to, I’m simply saying if she doesn’t want to do it she doesn’t have to.

This specific case have 2 main difference from your case:

1- Op is married and he is talking about his wife, a person that should help him when he needs it.

2- Op is the one who does those tasks, which means, not only he pulls his weight on the relationship but also shoes that he is a decent husband.
Sure, she is not obliged to do it, but let your significant other ask takeaway while you are perfectly able to cook is extremely extremely shitty and something that could even end their marriage.

And before you even think about calling me a sexist or something similar, the fact she is a woman is irrelevant here, if the gender were reversed or even equals, the issue would stay the same.
