Should I have gotten closer seats to the game?

So for Valentine's day I'm surprising my fiance with NBA tickets to the Atlanta hawks and Brooklyn Nets game. So I saw somewhere a girl got really close seats for her boyfriend, but I couldn't really afford close front row seats at the moment (bills). I hope it won't be bad, got tickets that are far up, like really far. Some closer ones were sold out. I just hope he likes his gift anyway.

If he can't appreciate your effort and willingness to live within your means, he doesn't deserve you. Never attempt to impress others by spending more than you can afford. Hopefully, the two of you will enjoy the game. Though there may always be something better, if the seats had no value, the stadium wouldn't offer them.

Yeah I feel it's the thought that counts, I spent at least $300. Lol if he can't see then I'll bring my iPad and zoom in on the game 🤣

I understand money doesn't go as far as it did when I was your age, but $300 is still a significant amount of money. Drop him fast if he feels it isn't enough, but don't assume he won't be appreciative.

High tech is amazing nowadays. My calculator throughout school was a slide rule. As a pilot in the Air Force, my navigational computer was a circular slide rule. I also remember buying gas for 17¢ a gallon. I could fill up my car for $2 and drive forever. The first Internet connection was made between UCLA and Stanford while I was a student at UCLA. When I was a kid, I listened to music on 78RPM records. We're living beyond Buck Rogers, and that was just a far-fetched fantasy back then.

I hope he likes it too. When I talk with UCLA students about the cost of tuition when I was attending, they are shocked. Tuition used to be $37.50 a quarter (and the $7.50 was the associated student fee). When UCLA basketball was the NCAA champ every year, I bought season tickets to the games for 25¢ per ticket. I get shell-shocked when looking at current prices of most anything.

You've got to realize that minimum wage back then was $1.65/hour. My son just told me about a raise he just got. He is now making more per year than I spent on my first two homes and 12 acres of land combined.

He'll still need to work 7 years to earn the value of those real estate assets, though.

Don't worry I feel like most people like the energy from other people (like the screaming and cheering) around them while watching the game much more so than the game itself, I'd just tell him before hand that you looked it very late and these were the best seats you could get
