Has anyone Been On A Break With Their boyfriend/S. O?

I currently asked my boyfriend for a break (no contact), I intend on seeing him in person on Friday to talk things out. I told him I am recognizing that we are on different paths in life, him having no job prospects or college education and is about to be 22 years old while I am only 2 years away from getting my BA and trying to get a master's after. His lack of motivation and romanticness does not attract me to him. His days are torpid and he just sleeps and plays video games. I know his behavior will not change if I force him and I do not count on his brain necessarily flipping a switch immediately after I tell him these concerns. I would just like advice on how to tell him these things and give him this ultimatum
