I think roasting is cool only when all sides are cool with it and have the equsl chance of getting esch other back. This was not a roast of will smith, it was the oscars filled with improvised jokes on Rock's half. Famous or not, right or wrong, jokes under the expense of someone's family member will lead to violence.
Chris Rock knew the risks, took the risk and got slapped. Therefore he waa no victim, no innocent bystander. Will Smith resorting to violence, made more history than winning an oscar. He is now a meme.
Both are celebrities with millions of fans getting heated up over this. As of celebrities, they should not diss or slap each other so both did wrong.
I haven't seen this scene and I tend to avoid both Oscars and cringe but from my own personal experience I can say that some people absolutely deserve to be slapped. It's this new sensitivity that makes cheeky people allow themselves to be rude and disrespectful towards others. In the past you'd think twice before insulting someone's wife in front of them because getting punched was 100% on the table.
I said “Yes” because people have gotten too comfortable with saying whatever they want and hurting whoever they want with NO consequences. He was Right to slap him because his wife is not shaving her head, but has a medical condition. He used his hand Not his fist so he was not trying to hurt him. Using the F-word made it ghetto. I can say “ghetto” because I am the color of my Avatar. He could have said, “Keep your mouth off my wife” without using the F-word. I hope what he did will make people think Twice before saying whatever they want to!
No I am Not a Saint and have Never claim to be. What happened needed to be addressed and I would have done the same thing he did. Slapping him only affected the person that had done Wrong. Everyone heard the cussing!
That is what I am saying. To be honest I would Not have done what he did, but I am glad he did it. Chris threw the first Punch and what he said is worse than what Will did! It sounds like we agree?
I Condemn violence and cussing, but what Will did was Not violence. He is calling it “violence” trying to say what he thinks people want to hear. Will “B _ t _ h Slapped” Chris, which is about humiliation Not harm. Chris humiliated Jada. That was the expression on her face. Will “B _ t _ h Slapped” Chris to humiliate him Not to harm him. If Will had hit Chris hard, he would have hit the ground. Will should apologize for cussing, but Not for the slap. Chris had that coming. What Chris did was the Same As telling a cancer patient that Lost their Hair from Radiation to go star in G. I. Jane 2. What Chris did was Horrible!
If Will was being “violence” he would have used his Fist. If Will was being “violence” he would have Kept hitting Chris. If Will was being “violence” Chris would be Hurt. Will humiliated Chris on National television because Chris humiliated Jada on National television!
It was a joke anyways, being a liberal state they don't believe in arresting or jailing people for serious crimes, let alone something minor like this.
I would not have done it, but I would of got up and left and forever boycotted the award show forever.
I don't have any respect for award shows of a bunch of liberals giving each other awards to begin with.
The police showed and Chris Rock decided to not press charges otherwise they would have. Liberals are people too fyi. You don't have to be liberal or conservative to still respect each other and their differences. But you're definitely allowed to be closed minded and speak about people in generalized manner.
Also here's an excerpt and I'll give the source as well to counter your idea that blue states won't arrest anyone that commits minor or major crimes.
"According to the FBI’s Uniform Crime Report, the nationwide arrest rate is 3,024 per 100,000 residents, with California ranking 36th highest among states." Source:
@Friendlybro79 Sure, tell that to all the victims of crime in San Francisco that they won't even prosecute, of course unless your a rape victim then the police have no problem using old rape kit DNA to go after rape victims, while they let the actual rapists go free and let people out of jail who were just booked so they can be arrested over and over.
There is more to it than just being arrested, even if Will Smith had been arrested, no time in jail and a tiny little fine is all he would of got, as California is very lenient on crime.
Thus your number of arrests mean nothing, anyone can be arrested and let out right away to re-offend.
Right. Look what happened with Juicy Smollett. He was supposed to be in prison for 6 months, and they let him out after just a few days. I also read about a Mexican in LA, he broke into 3 cars in one day, because police kept letting him go. In my town, there's a black guy who walks into Marshall's and just takes whatever he wants, and the store was told they're not allowed to do anything about it.
Well now you're talking about a different thing. I replied to your comment based on what you said. You're now changing the subject into something different. Can you cite any stats you have on this current claim you've made? To be clear, I'm not being sarcastic. I do understand terrible things happen to good people and the system isn't perfect. I've been assaulted before and mugged and unfortunately nothing could be done about it. I ask for stats because many times I've found people say things but don't always take the time to follow up on fact checking their statements. So they might have a perception of something based on something they heard. I can't assume you haven't done your due diligence to fact check yourself so that's why I ask for you to provide something. I'm not familiar with the local crimes of San Francisco and you seem to know more. So help me understand where you discoverered this data. I can't seem to find it but I might also not be searching this correctly.
It was unlawful, but, in the justice of the real world, the right thing to do.
The real question that you should have asked is:
"Was Chris Rock at the Oscars making a distasteful hurtful joke about Jada Pinkett's alopecia and witnessed live by millions of people all over the world right or wrong? HINT: He was a profound asshole with that joke."
This is what I wrote today in The New York Times: ======== I am a liberal and "woke" and all of that.
About Will Smith and Chris Rock...
Chris Rock's "joke" was in very poor taste and live in front of millions making it even worse and Will Smith's slapping him in response was illegal.
Was Will's response "right" though?
In the modern "woke" era, perhaps not, but, to any man of "The Greatest Generation", what Will Smith did was right. More so, those men would be shocked at the audacity of the "joke".
That's really what is at issue - how far our society has degraded that a "joke" of that caliber about a man's wife is deemed acceptable, but the husband slapping (not punching) the guy in response to that "joke" isn't.
And to think that the median age in the USA is 38 so over half of the people in this country were raised in a society in which such incivility in joke-telling (and not in private!) isn't shocking, but the completely traditional (and understandable to someone older) response is shocking to those people.
To me, that's even more upsetting that anything Chris Rock or Will Smith did last night.
Ridiculous really, if he was so worried, hurt, offended, he could have waited till he got his award and made it a teaching moment. Saying he did not appreciate the joke nor the audiences laughter towards his wifes medical issue. I really did not think the joke was offensive or pimp slap worthy at all but, ehh
I read an article online, that Smith and his wife had an "open relationship" and that neither of them felt that Monogamy was the way to live, and further, that if one had an affair with someone, they simply wanted to know about it beforehand, and had to give a yea, or nay to the 'fling'. Had you heard of this before?
'Kitty71"... I would say that Smith's violent assault in 'defense' of his wife was Disingenuous, at the VERY LEAST, whereas he 'felt' he 'had' to do something. If I were Chris Rock, I would file an assault charge against Mr. Tough Guy
Regardless of the joke being in bad taste, violence was not justified, not sending a very good nessage out to kids. I mean I we'd all love to slap the shit out of Chris Rock but this was too much, Will Smith obviously can't control his anger.
both were wrong, i mean she does have a medical issue, you wouldn't make a bad joke about someone going through cancer or their struggles with drug use or alcohol in the room. but he could have handled it better, waited till his speech and said something clever back. thats hollyweird for you-hypocrites
They were both out of line. But Chris Rock was way worse. Dude had no class. Got what he deserved. Still.. not sure if Will thought this through. Is Chris' total lack of judgment really worth Will going to jail over? This whole thing is flat-out stupid. And the fact that this is what makes the news, tells me there's something brewing somewhere in eastern Europe or east Asia somewhere, that's a thousand times worse, that the rags don't want us to know about.
He's a comedian paid to tell jokes and his joke was super mild. You notice he didn't talk about Will & Jada's relationship that has been in the news for a year or more? So please.
@hahahmm : Found out that part later. Radio talking about it made it sound way worse than it was. But yeah, it was stupid, and Will should've known better. Only went through with it, because he's too beta to stand up to Jada. The slap was what she wanted. But she'd rather jeopardize Will's future, than do her own dirty work.
Also didn't know Will was a total cuck until Chloe Roma pointed it out. Like much of modern Hollywood in general, that whole scenario, and Will's whole family, are all very screwed up.
Okay. It's also been pointed out that if the Rock had made the joke, Will would have kept his butt in the seat. One of the few actors to call him out says Will has become the villain and must be tired of being the good guy. He's in a dangerous phase. Lots of guys have ended up dead from fighting over women.
The slap in the face is a 'physical assault'. Try slapping someone's face in public, and having them call the police, and see what the charge against you is. "Assault and Battery"
@Bricealan see? Like you don't even have the 4 brain cells required to process what I just said.
When someone says assault, the insinuation is that some kind of bodily harm was intended. Something that would at the very least leave a mark that lasts longer than 20 minutes. And that it was unwarranted.
What will did was essentially a gesture of disrespect, it's literally the most harmless way he could have laid a finger on him.
If you want to be a lawyer and take out all the moral implications and ignore what's actually happening, yes he assaulted Chris.
If you want to have a productive conversation about the implications of saying what he did was right wrong or someplace in the middle, you need to start off by acknowledging that not only was Chris' joke about as low as he could go, but what will did after was not on the same level of (and by they way the charge would have been) aggrivated assault in how the phrase is intended/normally used.
Everyone saying that she has a disease, you are wrong. Look at her head. She clearly just shaves it. If she had a hair loss disease there would be large patches of absolute bald instead of the hair stubble that is covering her head. In any event alopecia is not a disease. I'm developing male pattern baldness, maybe I should go in to work tomorrow and tell them I have alopecia so I need to take a month off. There was no defending his family there, Smith is a cuck. His wife has been fucking around on him for their entire marriage and she told him So on a television interview program.
@coachTanthony it's Hollywood they're fake and would do anything for ratings. Oscar's views have been very low and there have been complaints about lack of diversity. What better way to add diversity and drama for better ratings.
The academy is a respected institution. So let’s just throw that all away to get a few views which doesn’t help views when everyone learns about it the next day!
Hey, trash TV sales. The Oscar's has been the least talked about but now. After this shit show big 💰. The Oscar's switched a lot of things up to meet the trends of today. They added a rapper, beyonce finally showed up ND well ofcourse there the will ND Jada incident
Garbage was totally staged. Don't know how people can't see that. Look at Chris Rock pasture as Will Smith was walking up to him.
Hands behind his back and sticking his neck out. He knew it was coming and notice he didn't flinched one bit as its natural to flinch a little in self defense.
Will was literally laughing 10 seconds prior at the same joke then suddenly got angry? Please. He even walked off with a kinda smile on his face.
People just believe whatever foolishness they see. 🙄
@Hispanic-Cool-Guy exactly 🤣 like how do they not get that. I guess people are gullible these days. Hollywood is very fake and will do anything for ratings. He definitely knew if was coming his stance told it all and if you watch and pause the video you'll see he didn't really slap him.
@Hispanic-Cool-Guy I'm shocked at the amount of ADULTS who think it's real. Like do they not realize these people are all actors and Hollywood has been pulling these stunts for years in order to get better ratings. Since this incident Chris rocks sales for his comedy tour skyrocketed. Hollywood is fake they're all actors
Will is staying by his wife through thick and thin; and will shield her through any bullshit that comes her way. This is what it means to be married; good and bad, sickness and in health. It is sad they have so much of their private life out in the open, but at least we can see how serious they are about marriage and each other.
Plus, this helps Jada out, because now when I google her I see Will defending her and not Will close to tears over the entanglement.
The Smiths' allowed us to make fun of Jada's entanglement and Will's seemly sad face, because they brought that on themselves; but to feel comfortable enough to make fun of her alopecia at the Oscar's. That's something you can't simply turn the other cheek on. Celebrities live by different rules whether you want to acknowledge that or not, simply ignoring it won't make the jokes stop and Chris Rock is well known with a huge following. If Will would have let that side, then the masses will take liberty to make jokes about her hair loss; what Will did not only negate that, but show the public how serious this is to the family.
Plus, if you know anything about men and how real fighting is like, you'll see that Will didn't use that much strength. He made a hit that surprised Chis Rock more than knock him on his feet. It's more of a back off rather than a threat, and Chris understood that which is why he didn't press charges.
It's okay for you to think in black and white, because you have all right to do so; but understand there's a bigger picture. Abuse and toxic masculinity is a problem; but none of that was here.
Yeah no. I don't wanna hear it. Will did it because his bitch of a wife can't take a God damn joke and told him to fucking do it say something. And being the pussy whipped coward he did he tried to act all tough and hot someone. Fuck that. What he did wasn't acceptable no matter how you try to twist it
People are going to be talking about this for months, like this will literally go down in history as well as making memes about it. Will shouldn't have slapped him but Chris shouldn't have made that joke so to me both are in the wrong.
Chris is a comedian though they make these jokes for a living. It’s not like she has cancer and had to shave her head this was a completely harmless joke and she got butthurt and Will made a fool of himself
@Birdlegs agree Will shouldn't have done that, personally he could've talked to Chris about it in private but instead he assaulted the guy on national television
So making jokes is illegal now? Oh right. I forgot it's 2022. You really think Will Smith would've slapped a female comedian who made that joke, like Sarah Silverman? Or that everyone would be defending his CLEARLY WRONG actions if he slapped the sh*t out of her? Anyone who condones Smith's bitch-ass slapping another man like a diva in a shoe store, pretty much condones Cancel Culture. "It's okay to hurt people due to jokes."
@Lionman95 That's irrelevant. Like I said elsewhere, if society wants to condone violence because they got mildly offended like a pussy, then I'd be Purging everyone on the streets for the daily human stupidity.
Defending the honor of the honorless. Seems like an oxymoron but okay. Will Smith is a cuck and it's clear that he's not partnered with his wife, he's owned by her. Dude gets cheated on and then cries sucking up to her blaming himself. The dude is an emotional wreck and an embarrassment. If he was strong he would have left her a long time ago. Just look at this clown smh.
Read an article about those Hollywood types that believe that 'monogamy' is past its time, and Will smith and Wife signed onto that belief, as long as one or the other informs the partner that they was a 'fling'. That was six months ago, and there were several others that agreed with it.
Rightly, or wrongly, it was a stupid thing for Will Smith to do in front of the public eye, and on television. I did not see it, but if the comment was in bad taste, and apparently it was, he and his wife should have just simply walked away and not made a bad scene much worse in the public eye. Smith, whether he knows it or not, 'blackened' his eye before the public, with that kind of behavior.

Will obviously has more Class than Jada
@Waldoe and to cheat is having class?

Wrong.
You don't respond to verbal with physical.
This is like those women who are losing an argument with their man and have no comeback so they slap them across the face.
Will was also smiling at the joke until he looked at his wife's face and saw she wasn't upset.
He's okay with other guys banging his wife but not making jokes?

He didn't beat the shit out of him or give him a black eye or try to hurt him, he slapped Chris.

He did 🤣🤣wtf? Omg but yeah his posture did give it away
Grown adults fallen for that ish should be embarrassed. People today are stupid af.
Exactly. Hardly no one watches the Oscar's anymore and I bet a huge portion of the population didn't even know the Oscar's were on that night.
After that slap as Chris Rock waited with a smile everyone started to give them attention and talking about them non stop.
Exactly 🤣 no one watches that shit. That's why they did this
Lots of people watch Oscar’s it’s just overshadowed by Ukraine war right now
It's endearing.
So a man assaulting another man over a joke is endearing... yeah someone likes toxic dudes then
@Koneko911
Ha! You funny.
However, I wouldn't call Will toxic.
^^^^yeah don't try to explain these toxic young people, just dont.
So well said through and through, thank you!
@skycastle90
It's criminal.
And pathetic.
If my girlfriend did that, I'd break up.
@Koneko911 Exactly. She thinks that is good for her "ego"
Yeah no. I don't wanna hear it. Will did it because his bitch of a wife can't take a God damn joke and told him to fucking do it say something. And being the pussy whipped coward he did he tried to act all tough and hot someone. Fuck that. What he did wasn't acceptable no matter how you try to twist it
That she is I will say that ever since first days of acting.
@Koneko911
To each their own.
@MCheetah No making jokes is not illegal. He didn't even hit him hard because would have knocked him about down and would have made him tremble.
@Lionman95
That's irrelevant.
Will doesn't believe that crap. He's just to humiliated to admit he's weak
