What would be some good activities when hanging out with an autistic guy?

So I was asked by this guy who has autism to hang out. I was planning on just going to a simple movie with him. But now I’m thinking what kind of hang out activities does autistic people prefer. Do they prefer activities that doesn’t require talking like a movie or something that requires more talking. I’ve never hung out with anyone who has autism so I don’t know how to go about it.

Autism is a spectrum… It doesn’t always affect everyone the same. Sometimes activities that has lots of sensory overloads that might overstimulate them. For example, sometimes a movie might be an overload in auditory or visual stimuli.


You should ask him what he feels comfortable with, what are some things he enjoys doing because he knows what’s best for him and his comfort zone. Take those things into consideration when planning. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and try to get to know him.


But at the end of the day, he’s just like me, you, and everyone else.

Like others here are saying... Autism doesent effect everyone the same way so you should ask him what he's comfortable, and then decide, for example i get overwhelmed by loud sounds and when there's a lot of people around, so i would prefer a more quiet place to hang out in, your friend might have different things he gets overwhelmed by so be sure to ask

You can't generalize autism? You can't generalize anybody's likes/dislikes... Thats crazy... The only thing you can generalize is their condition. Probably activities less socially populated. Something he can focus in on. What he himself likes only he knows. A simply "what do you like to do?" Text should be fine.

Best bet is to ask him personally. My mother used to aid autistic people. Ask him what overwhelms him.

Well you can't really put autistic people in a box. They all are different and like different things. You should just ask them what they want to do when you hang out.

Ask him what he likes, just like you would anyone else. Our tastes vary. We're not all the same.

I'm on the spectrum and you can't generalize it. Usually autistic people have things they have intense passions for so ask him :)
