It's basic information. Age, sexual orientation, what neighbourhood you live in, and how you spend roughly eight hours every day.

Don't get defensive about it. If you are, it's a red flag to people.

If you were chatting online, it could be irrelevant. Irl on a date? It's expected.

Wouldn't you also want to know what the guy does for a living? When starting a potential relationship, hopefully, we take time to get to know all aspects of the person. We want to know if they feel good about and enjoy what they do. We also want to know the person isn't just looking for someone to bleed assets from. By asking this question, it appears you're more interested in a provider than a partner.

I think it's because they're trying to put you in a box. It's my personal belief that people are more than what they do "for a living." I could go on and on but I'll leave that as my answer for now.
