He was (still is) in a separate National Guard company, but when he saw me he remembered me from his grandfather's funeral when I had to jump into an open grave to retrieve a rubber chicken that a little boy had thrown in. He also remembered overhearing me tell my dad to go take a flying fuck at a rolling donut (I was ready to kill him). During a drill weekend, I asked him out to dinner but he declined saying he was seeing someone. Then a few months later, he asked if the offer for dinner was still good, but at the time I had just started seeing someone so I declined. Fast forward a few months later and we ended up being free and single again, so I asked him out and he accepted. We agreed to meet at IHOP late at night for dinner, but he poked in the wrong IHOP in his GPS and he went to the wrong one - in the neighboring state across the river. Then when we ended up in the right place together, we had a great pancake and hash brown dinner. He insisted on paying, but his credit card got declined (he'll never live it down) and I had to bail him out. But it set me off laughing so hard I couldn't talk for five minutes. Always an adventure. We got married two weeks ago.

We met on Tinder. The worst place to find a relationship for young adults.
However, we both were looking for something serious, other dating apps like Bumble or Hinge didn’t really have any luck due to the lack of profiles in our area. Tinder was more popular.
We went on a date and hit it off well. Now we’re doing great :-)
We met at a picnic, specifically Hanami in April like so:
She was a friend of a friend. That was 15 years ago, I think? Or maybe 16 years ago. I'm terrible at keeping track of chronology.
We became flirty friends first for almost a year and we always had a tendency to halfway ditch our friends when we hung out to talk to each other. I found I could just talk and talk and talk to her and never get bored.
One day, our friends had to all leave early leaving just the two of us at a bar. So we danced a bit and she gave me a flirty kiss (just a peck on the lips) and then I asked her out a second time (I asked her out before a few months after we became friends but she turned me down thinking I was a playboy or something) and then she agreed.
I met my wife in 7th grade at the age of 12 or 13. It was love at first sight and I recall telling my best friend at the time that “I just met the girl I’m going to marry.” It wasn’t easy however…she was involved in a strict religion that did not allow her to marry outside of it. Otherwise I would have asked her as soon as we graduated high school. So she married a different man and it lasted 7 years. I married her the day of her divorce. We had 19 years and three children together. Sadly, alcoholism destroyed the marriage. We split two years ago. I wouldn’t change a thing because I think my kids are so damned perfect…and wouldn’t be who they are without her.
