My ex "throw shade" at me today, why?

So today at school me and some of my classmates were sitting down at lunch. So the conversation about getting a boyfriend came up and she then process to call him over (he is also her ex) so she then ask him on how to get a girlfriend for one of the guys who was at the table. They then tease him about how he is a player yadda yadda woo. After that he goes completely off topic and says "let me ask you this question. What if the person likes you but they don't want to make a move so you try to because they aren't use to have boyfriend's (which was hurtful that last piece 💀) he was talking about me and his situation. I laughed in my mask during the whole thing, I didn't respond. If I did, it wouldn't have been good and I would've looked like a fool. So why would he do that? What is the sole reason?

You guys call him over put him on spot yadda yaddaa calling him playaa, he put pressure back at you.
You might not thought about it at time, but when u sit with friends and put guy on spot, its as if u sit in high chair feeling untouchable, so he might not like to be put on spot like that and decided to put pressure back. In that way you feel pressure he felt and now you both on same page.

THEY called him all those things. I don't even speak to him, and I don't even speak about him. I've never said an ill thing about him. So it was confusing when he did say those thing.
