Indeed, men with a short emotional range might actually find it a reprieve if their spouse went for an "emotional affair." Let her take up someone else's leisure time listing her concerns at them. Along those same lines, some women with a small enough sex drive might actually find it a reprieve to send their spouse to a prostitute who will service him physically but otherwise have nothing to say to him.

emotional. I could possibly forgive someone who only had sex with someone who is almost like a stranger, but not if my man had let himself fall and connect deeply with someone else and only stopped at the physical. He would likely want sex with her anyway, maybe she is just holding back on it.

Physical because of the risk of possible stds in addition to betrayal of trust, and action of the betrayal, emotional would just be betrayal of trust without actions or possible std risk.
