Love. Not platonic I-wanna-be-your-forever-friend but that romantic, sexual, I-want-you-in-my-life-forever-and-in-my-bed-every-night love. That love that you happily and eagerly allow to consume your life. If there was only ONE soulmate in the world for you, then most people would never fall in love (because they would never find their one soulmate) and no one would ever fall in love more than once. Over the course of fifty years, I have been in love seven times and my longest relationship lasted 19 years. That number surprises me but I did not quickly fall in love with any of them; the briefest of those relationships lasted at least a year. How many times have you been in love? If you are not in love now, are you open to falling in love with someone in the future?

I've been in actual love twice. The realistic kind of love where you like everything about someone, can't get enough of them, and can envision spending your entire life with them.

I had quite a few relationship from the time I was 16. They were all based on infatuation. But at a young age, people don't know what love is even if they imagine that they do. Plus, I, myself, had no plans of settling down anytime soon. I wanted to experience all that life had to offer, have adventures, and be exuberant. I was full of energy and joy and didn't want to be locked into marriage and family or responsibilities. So, looking back, at that point I wasn't even capable of true love, which means giving yourself to another person completely.

It wasn't until my mid-30s that I began to think of settling down. By then, I had a lot of knowledge and experience and had also done a lot of inner work on myself. I was also quite secure financially with a good job and savings.

I met one particular woman named Petra when I was 37. As it turned out, she was 6.5 years younger than me. She was hypersexual, orgasmic and adorable. Aside from the sex, which was beyond amazing, I liked everything about her. We wound up virtually living together for over a year and I loved with my heart and soul.

Circumstances forced us to separate. It's complicated. But it ripped my guts out. It's the worse pain I have ever experienced. It took me year to pull myself together.

When I was 40, I met my future wife. She was beautiful but didn't exactly match the physical ideal I had created in my mind. Petra had matched my physical ideal. But my future wife and I totally clicked. She was amazing.

As it turned out, she wasn't hypersexual like Petra. I doubt if many women are. But she's so much more. I married her two years after we met and we've been happily married now for over 25 years. She has taught me sooo much. I'm continually amazed to have been lucky enough to have such a wonderful woman fall in love with me. We've had so much fun, and we've built a wonderful life together. I can truly say that I look forward to spending the rest of my life with her. I couldn't love her more.

Only once. Unfortunately we were at different points in life, her going starting college and me off to the military. The distance and lack of communication as a result killed the 2.5 year relationship. I haven't met anyone since who I have looked forward to talking to or hearing from as much as her. Rambling on and on for hours about nothing. I was so comfortable and at peace around her. Almost 14 years later and I still haven't found a connection like that. She was smart funny, talented, a total band geek which I loved. Here I was a damaged teen from foster care, pot head who didn't graduated. What she saw in me, to this day I'll never know. I am glad to have had her in my life albeit briefly.

I would say I’ve been in love maybe 3 times - for romantic loves. I have dated a handful of people, but I don’t think most were true love, I think it was infatuation.

My first real, serious boyfriend was when I was 15, I truly felt like I loved him, but I don’t think I was in the right mind space to have a romantic love life. Yes, I enjoyed the company, I wanted a future with him, I was with him for 2 years, and I said I loved him… But looking back, I don’t know if it was just infatuation for years or love. I don’t know what to call it.

My second serious boyfriend, I truly did love him… Unfortunately was abusive later on in the relationship. However, the time before he started the cycle of abuse, I did love him. I was barely 18 when I started dating him, I was naive, and I thought that what he did to me was normal because it was kinda how my parent’s relationship was. We broke up, and I had a difficult time moving on and burying the feelings of love.

I am now in my third serious relationship. It isn’t infatuation, but he truly is someone I love with all my heart. I have never felt this much love for someone. This relationship was what made me realize the difference between infatuation, unhealthy relationships, and unrequited love VS. true love, healthy relationships, and requited love.

Maybe 4. I certainly have had my share of crushes though. I'm still in love with my first Love. I was thinking about him on my drive home tonight. Bitter sweet. I miss him and appreciate him for teaching me to love, what it was to be loved and best of all how to love myself. He truly made me feel beautiful. Sadly he passed away... On his way to see me... I found out through his family at the funeral he had a ring and was going to purpose. They gave me the ring he had with him that night. 😔 I would have said yes 🥰. Then as a teen there was a blond girl that liked me, we met at church, choir practice 😁. We had fun together. I even asked my friend - who has been in a relationship for ten years - how to know if one is in love. Once (2.6 years), I never loved anyone as much as I loved him, but he was unable to love me the same way. I tried to stay with him although I know he was toxic and manipulative, although he abused me, he threatened me many times that he would leave me and I begged him not to leave me perhaps more than 300 times. I apologised even when I knew he was wrong, but he never apologised. He told me he hated me, but I would cry and tell him not to say that. Finally, I plucked up the courage and told him that I cannot stay where I and my love isn't valued, and left. I feel I got back my self respect, sense of self worth, and confidence. I think everyone should feel alarmed that love is dying. Today's culture is hook up culture. Sex and fast sex is prority. With this kind of mentality love is not really possible. Relationships don't last long nowadays. a lot of people are not getting married. There are not enough ladies (not sluts) or gentelmen (not players). It's the age of pimps and whores instead. Most people do not have the integrity, stability and sense of aesthetics true love requires. People cheat easily and have little sense of commitment. I blame Western society.

With a wonderful girl, while yes, we’ve had our issues and struggles and have broken up on a couple occasions, her and I still always find eachother and can cheer eachother up when no one else can. Two times. First time it was my teen love. She got it for free and unconditional because she was the first one. Nevertheless she didn't value my love in time of our relationship that much and as she started to recognize it's value, my love decayed and disappeared. Just to clarify you don't have to be sexual with someone in order to be in love with them. You can sleep with someone and be in a relationship with them and yet it's not love and you can meet a person with whom you didn't have a relationship but you feel love for them years later. I guess I've been in love once but I'm not even sure.
