Is it okay to engage in online chat with someone, whilst in a relationship?

I like chatting to people, male or female. I find it fun and entertaining. I won't cross the line and start talking about anything sexual though. That isn't the reason why I'm engaging in a conversation over the internet. I like to talk about shared interests; video games, random thoughts, the places they're from, things like that.

There are a lot of shady people around though, and I feel like because of this there are a lot of dos and don'ts when it comes to dating.

I don't want to be told not to speak to people over the internet whilst in a relationship, because I'm not doing it for any bad reasons, I have done it since I was a teenager. If I was looking for something seedy I would just be single.

Is it wrong to chat with people online, whilst in a relationship?

No, it's not- now clearly you're a woman who doesn't want to be held to any standards- you want to do whatever you want without recourse, sure. Got it. Whatever.

However, you seem to possess this convoluted dichotomy, of you as this ethical pursuer of conversation, while others are "seedy," and you exposing yourself to their environments is clearly no fault of your own.

Anyway, it isn't okay to engage in chat with people of the opposite sex while in a relationship unless, in the same way it's not okay to go to a bar to chat up random people (yet be surprised when you get hit on). You clearly like the attention- get some friends, talk to them, but if you're interacting with men you're inviting someone to step over the line- and if/ when your boyfriend finds out you cannot just say "oh, he was just a friend/ some guy I talked to- I don't know why he took my talking the wrong way..."

It's not wrong to do so, if one knows their own boundaries and what one can do before they just are cheating. But if one don't trust themselves then they shouldn't but then they also need to work on that because it probably shows they will cheat at some point.

No it's not wrong to chat with other people while in a relationship. It is even ok to meet them in person as long as you do nothing but be friends. I'm married and my wife knows im on chat sites. I talk to people from all over the world. I have met a couple people, man and woman, in person. I have even invited them to my house.
There is a fine line that I don't cross. I flirt but that's as far as it goes.

It’s never wrong to talk to people and be an active member of society. If you didn’t talk to others or your SO prohibited it that’s an issue. We are social creatures and as you said sharing connections and having fun conversations are healthy. Do you talk online often? Ever want to vent or explore emotions?
