I feel like my boyfriend is unhappy with me because I don't work, I'm focusing on school and we don't live together. He said he wants someone to make at least 30k a year. I make around 22k with disability, soon will be 25k because my mom wanted to be a dependent. He feels he needs someone to brag on and he can't do that even though I'm going to school to complete my bachelor's and master's. It just seems he only looks at money, he makes like 54k a year. When we got together I made way less.

He has set his priorities, and they differ from yours. You're not saying you want to be a dependent; you're saying you're choosing to go through the process of educating yourself so you can have a career in the future. You're still young, and he's being unreasonable. Due to his degree of focus on money at this stage, it will only get worse as things progress. Cut your losses and find someone who appreciates you as you are. What he does is totally up to him.

Yeah like when we first got together i made like $13k. He just cares if I'm working I'm like why does it matter so much as long as I have income. I want to get married and he's holding it off til I make more money.

Either he doesn't want to be anyone's provider, or he is expecting someone else to provide a lifestyle he feels he can't achieve on his own. No matter his reasons, prioritizing money will doom any relationship.

Yes money isn't everything. He said a marriage should be 50/50 I agree but sometimes that won't happen all the time like he or I would have to put in more in the relationship. It just feels like me working can do something to move forward.

I don't care about money. I didn't think guys cared either but he seems fixated. I asked should he because I'm not working and it seems like something he wants.

At some point he is going to have to clearly define what is and is not absolutely important. Sounds like a serious and sincere conversation is needed. There does not have to be "guessing games".

Yeah he didn't think my income before was $18k was enough to live alright life. He makes way more, he still stays with his dad rent free. I stay with my mom helping her with bills.
