I think it is fine standing by your rights if someone directly disrespected you. I personally try to confront ill mannered people very politely as the reason is not to anger them but calm them down or help them approach you/others in a nicer way. Voice is a wonderful tool if used right. But I think it is always good to evaluate the need and consequences to bring it up. Sometimes some people seem like they would never chill anyway 😂

And I would like to add that even if your attempt would not work, it still plants a seed to their thoughts and eventually they find water and sunlight to your words and learn 👍
