someone asked me “what’s love to you?”, to which I replied “like everything I’ve ever lost come back to me”. The best kind of love always makes you feel undeserving, so you know never to take it for granted. True love is unconditional and extravagant to the point that it doesn’t make sense. I quite like the phrase “like because, love despite”. This phrase points to how someone likes someone because of something (nice hair, good looks etc), but we love someone DESPITE their flaws, imperfections, failures etc.

Love is an invitation to be yourself. If you love someone, you accept them for who they are.

Doing what is in a person's best interest, even if they don't want it. And when their best interest becomes your focus (not obsessively, but in a healthy way).

Examples are taking a child to the doctor for a shot, or sacrificing something for your partner so they can have something for Christmas (so they can be happy).

This is more of a general definition. Not specifically romantic love. A parent or friend could apply to this.

Love is not a feeling. It’s an action. Without conditions

Parental love: teaching their child, helping them to grow, providing a supportive environment, being a place of refuge.

Brotherly/sisterly love: Looking out for each other, being their shoulder to cry on, being a mirror so they can see their blind spots and improve, weathering through highs and lows together.

Romantic love: Accepting your partner for who they are, helping them improve, making them feel safe, encouraging each other, Spending time alone with them, caring for them on a personal level, protecting them, giving affection, doing things for them out of love (eg. cleaning the house, cooking, birthday plans, dates, gifting), reciprocating gestures of love from your partner and showing appreciation, being each other's pillar of support, and of course, a healthy amount of intimacy.
