A misunderstanding?

So recently my very new boyfriend said on Sunday morning that he "needs alone time" for the rest of the day as he had to put his dog down at the vet the day before. I was there for him throughout the whole thing and even made him breakfast the next morning - basically just supported him through it all. I was really upset to hear that he wants to be by himself, I thought it was a pretty odd thing to say to your girlfriend, especially since we've just gotten together. Is this a red flag? I know everyone handles grief differently but I still think it's odd to be by yourself and not want your girlfriend around for any emotional support. It's also upsetting because we don't really get to see each other during the week and he wanted to spend Sunday alone. He's been really distant since I told him that made me upset. Any advice would be really appreciated! Thank you

Females often take our need to be alone as some sort of rejection. Sometimes we just need to work shit out and if you force your way in, then be prepared to see some ugly shit.

I'll try to put this into perspective. Me punching my anime pillow because my ex ex had a baby and is going after me for child support is one thing. My current girlfriend knows I never knew I had a child, I never knew... but I might need some time to just punch that anime pillow and figure out wtf is going on. I might want to cry. ... that's the setup of this scenario. Now imagine your the damn girlfriend that's freaking out about me crying and punching an anime pillow. You keep asking questions and freaking out about my emotional outbursts... I would ask you if you're helping or hurting the situation at this point.

You need to know when it's time to just fuck off and let the dude figure shit out or deal with it. You hound the mother fucker and he'll probably break down and cry or some stupid emotional bullshit that never solves anything. Learn to lay off, and let him sort his shit out.

I mean seriously... it's a fucking dog. Throw doggo in the dumpster already or give doggo a nice grave. But get over it. A few day I would understand, but if the fucker is crying about doggo for months... red fucking flag lady. There is issues that were way bigger than just doggo going on and doggo just busted the damn.

How would you feel if you told him you felt sad, and he responded with "Well, you shouldn't feel sad, so you stating you feel sad makes me upset"? People tend to be too much into themselves to be healthy partners. Whenever people share a feeling, that's saying they feel safe enough to be vulnerable with you. Respect that vulnerability; don't use it as ammunition against them. He wanted one day alone to focus on memories of his dog and grieve in his own way, yet you made it all about you and how he wasn't being fair to you. You could have said, "You had a special connection with your dog, and I'm sure you'll savor those memories forever. Take the day to reminisce. Just know I'm always here for you... someone to talk with... someone to comfort you... someone to love you unconditionally (just like your dog)."

Guys avoid Loss. We do not like pain. Have you ever known or seen a guy break up with a girl just to start acting like they are still dating? We do not grieve loss and this is why we always have baggage from past relationships... we never let it go in a therapeutic way. He is going through that process now.

Do not pressure hi. Do not try to be there. Give him space and he will come to you. at least 2 days in between contact. Good luck.
