well... more than an opinion, this is my actual experience

and what was always worked for me best... it is to be my genuine self but not all of it right away

looks and appearance, over all personality and character have always been enough to get attention or at least intrigue but that's just always phase one... what matters the most is to be able to keep their attention and also be worthy of their consideration after all first impressions

and that second part is a very different question that requires a much longer answer, lol

The last time I dealt with this situation, I had a captive audience: I was his server.

Given this is not everyone's experience, I'd say making eye contact and striking up a conversation would be my choice. It doesn't have to be about sex appeal, or looks, just interest and kindness. Sharing your interests helps too, because he would have a sense of your life outside of the present situation.
