Why are more people willing to forgive cheating than a one time violent episode?

Both are deal-breakers to most people but I've noticed more people are willing to work out infidelity than a one time physical altercation.

Both are acts of killing trust and security they had in you. Both changes a relationship forever. If you cheat or hit back, things will obviously never be the same again ever and you just scooped down to their level, you're just like them now. Still why are more people willing to work out cheating but not the other?

Probably because of the psychological effects of physical violence

I can forgive. Doesn’t mean I will allow them back into my life though.
