Been spending time with this guy and he calls it just hooking up but he asks me to spend the night and next day with him, takes me to dinner, we hang out and watch movies, text all the time. Forgive me if I'm wrong but isn't hooking up just sex and ya leave? Dude is sending some mixed messages.

I've never had a "hook up" like this. It's confusing lol

If he's calling it just hooking up, then it's just hooking up. But if you need deep clarification then you need to sit down and have face to face conversation about what he wants and where this relationship is going. If he tells you again it's just hooking up, then believe what he says and don't try to look for a deeper meaning or wait for him to change if that's not what you're wanting. So it's up to you, do you just want a fling or do you want a relationship? It's better to find out now then later and possible regret it.

Hooking up generally means meeting up for only sex.

Maybe he enjoys your company and doing things people do together when they're dating, but doesn't want to put a label on it, because he's not ready for a committed relationship.

I was in a similar situation, but he actually told me he want ready to date or be in a relationship, because he has to work on himself first.

We'd have sex, spend days out together, go for meals and drinks etc. We had some great times together.

All of a sudden, he started ghosting me. I was devastated, because I thought he'd tell me if he no longer wanted to spend time with me. I found out he stopped seeing me because he'd started dating someone. It was very hurtful, because it was a clear rejection without actually telling me. I think he used me until he met a girl he did want to be in a relationship with.

The problem now in western society is that commitment is considered a taboo or a thing that should be automatically rejected.

Maybe because that society made certain regulations that affected the idea of marriage and a true relationship between a man and a women that is based on genuine grounds.

After careful research, I realized that these regulations affected men more than women in their way of thinking.

back to your question, This guy mostly likely likes you more than that but he is afraid of commitment because he was raised in an environment that made him think like this.

He's just being respectful of you, and doesn't want to throw a label on things. It's "relationship lite." Just enjoy it for what it is. Don't do the thing a lot of women do where they try to define something that doesn't need to be defined.

@red324 because people, especially our culture, tends to do things backwards. We want what we want right now. Men want sex. Women want love. Women give sex hoping love will follow. The prize is obtained without the effort. Without the investment. Without the foundation. The man doesn't have the connection the woman seeks. Can it happen later? Sure. But thats why he's not where she's hoping he would be.

Depends who you’re dealing with. Some men will just use you for sex then give you the boot til next time but others choose to create a bit more substance, which is what I believe he is doing.
