My mom asked about the citizenship status of my girlfriend at the dinner table. Is that racist or was she just looking out for me?

My family has seen pictures of my girlfriend on my instagram but never in person because we live in two different parts of Texas. So they finally met her for the first time and it was now obvious she was Hispanic because of her accent. Just on looks alone and her name, she looks entirely white. She is also extremely westernized. So anyway we visited my family this weekend and they started asking questions about her citizenship and how her family became citizens. They didn’t ask if her grandfather illegally crossed over but it was as if they were asking that… my girlfriend didn’t mind the questions and she was happy to share
