How does communication through social media affect the relationship?

For two weeks my partner and I doing long distance and we are only able to talk through social media and from time to time we call each other. For the time being, I don't think we communicate the way we used to for example I can't even explain myself the way I want to and suddenly the conversation ends. When we were spending time together, it wasn't like this. Do you think talking through social media affects the relationship?

I think so and from what I can tell it is a negative effect. Unless it is used as a short contact with purposes to her together in person. I realize that this does not apply to you.

I haven't made any experience with that but I also never communicated with past ex's over social media... like we had each other on social media but we did call or hang out in person more

Although social media has many positive benefits, it has the potential to wreak havoc on a relationship. Some of the negative effects of social media and relationships include decreased time with a partner, missed connections, jealousy, conflict arising from disagreements or hurt feelings, and negative comparisons.

Well you can’t talk the way you do when texting because there’s no real context to it so people don’t really get what you mean as if you were actually talking on the phone or seeing them so it is harder

Don’t let texting be all you do to communicate. Do some video chats or you won’t really feel like you know them once your in there presence

Short term not much. Trying to date through social media long term is a waste of time.

Relationship needs to involve people physically seeing each other in person.
